Sculpting?

I have been painting for quite a while now but I want to go into a little sculpting. Are there any good online tutorials available? or some tips from the more experienced?

There\'s a great great sculpting group on Yahoo that includes such illustrious members as Bobby Jackson (Lotta Reaper, all Thugz) and Sandra Garrity - one who is undisputably in the top of her field. They both contribute regularly. But there are tons of great folks who are members.
it\'s called \"1list Sculpting\" they have a great FAQ and a bunch of support documents for beginners and experienced scupltors too - I dare say it\'s almost too much and every possible detail from carving to vulcanizing to casting is all covered.

In short: HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!!

My best sculpting tools came from a cheap hardware store.. I have no idea what they are originally for but you\'ll know them when you see them. I\'m thinking of making a step by step article myself, but it\'s kinda hard, as I would have to do in progress shots, and all the while the stuff is hardening. My suggestion is to do small things to get used to it (Such as filling in gaps), then onto smaller things (such as making custom parts). I\'ve gotten okay at it, but I still use a model closest towhat I want... I would never try to sculpt a dragon right now, for example... :p

You could probably say I\'m in the same boat as Chrispy right now. I\'m still experimenting for the most part, but I am getting pretty decent at making little details like chapter logos, bionic eyes, that sort of thing. I just sculpted long hair for the first time the other day and am really happy with how it turned out. It\'s maybe a bit thicker than I would have liked, but the style and look is just what I wanted. With practise I\'ll get better, and I plan on doing a lot of that in the future.

Not quite good enough to do any really highly ornate stuff, or full models, but I\'ll get there eventually :D

Dry sculpting is something I\'ve really had some success with though. Pega was the one who first really drew attention to it, and I find it can be a lot easier to use a blade to cut straight edges and files to smooth out layers after I\'m done the rough work with a sculpting tool and putty. Naturally this won\'t work for all things, but it\'s a great trick to have in the bag for when I need it :)

Yeah, sculpting is difficult... and I suck royally at it. the biggest problem I have is sculpting areas of smooth armor (IE Space Marine armor plates), and faces. I\'m about to par with hands... and weapons, lets not go there either.

Pretty much I\'m only doing details right now. For instance on my Adahan model (Aurora Chapter Master), there are little things like the tabard, arm and leg joints, and the rocks made with greenstuff. I used dental tools for most of it, and cut back into the putty after its cured.

Also, since some people have been pestering me about those rocks on the base, I\'m considering a tutorial for the easy, easy construction of them, all I need to do is get some more putty!
