Hola,
I am reasonable at sculpting. I can resculpt limbs, weapons, clothes etc. but the one thing i struggle with is bandages and grip type things on weapon shafts. Was wondering whether any of you lot out there new of a tutorial or whatnot of how to do it.

Are you talking about like the leather bindings around the shaft of a battle axe for example...?

I haven\'t TRIED, but I would think merely some very thinly flattened GS sausages wrapped around the shaft would give a reasonable effect - maybe with a few nicks and tears sclupted in...?

Yeah thats what i mean sorry if it wasn\'t clear, i couldn\'t think of the word. I have tried that but it never really turns out that great. Oh well practice makes perfect..........

Maybe if you could include some examples of \"how NOT to do it\" ;) Where it hasn\'t worked properly, and some examples of how you WANT it to look? :)

Could you not just put green stuff around the entire part you want straps, then score the straps in with a knife?

I don\'t have any \'not to do it\' but here\'s how it should look http://allanc.art.free.fr/index2.htm just look at the sculpts and thats how i want the strapping etc. to look. Thanks for the future.
Thats a good idea about scorring them but i don\'t think it would work properly for what i want

If you want them to look like how Allan Carasco does them, why don\'t you PM him and ask? I\'m sure he could give you a few quick pointers. Then the rest would be a matter of practice.

I\'ve had problems with this too, the detail tends to get lost. I also have trouble with but a belt around a mini, when trying to push the ends together, getting a big lump, as the greenstuf stretches.

Well when I\'ve done it, I covered the whole thing, then ran a blunt knife round in a spiral, then using a blunt sculpting toll, went back and added a slight recess to the middle of the strip.

Not sure if that really helps much...

I use the thin sausage technique. You have to let the GS cure for at least 1/2 hour or its too sticky. Make it as thin as possible then wrap it to desired effect. Score along edges before wrapping is easier but the strip is a little more brittle.

Good luck.

Put a fingertip of Vaseline/Petroleum Jelly on a tile.
Run same amount on hands
Mix Green Stuff.
Place on Tile.
Find long smooth tube and roll out Green Stiuff until flat and smooth approx 1mm thick.
Use sharp Scalpel/ Knife to cut thin strip.
Wind strip were you want it to go.
Add texture as needed.

Voila: Belt, Strap, Sash or whatever.
