Salamander Captain (GDUK08)

Hmmm... first thread seemed to have been lost in the aether.

Anyway, here\'s my Salamander Captain I entered into GDUK08.

He\'s really not that great but I was hounded into entering him by the guys at GW Loughborough who, as I am now convinced, are surely part of some conspiracy since he got past the second round.

Decided to get an account here as I will be doing more \'quality\' stuff in the future (though I use the term in it\'s most liberal and relative term possible) so I though I should start somewhere.

Linkage.

Sorry about the quality of the photos. If anyone wants I can put up higher res ones, but the paint job looks even worse.

It was obviously a popular model - I\'ve seen lots of photos of it that people took at Games Day. Congrats on being a finalist.

The flame details are nice - and it was a good choice of model - Salamanders seem popular with GW at the mo.

Welcome to the forum :).

I like how you converted him and the paint job is pretty good. I think you should take another pic but with a neutral background (a piece of white paper will do the trick ;)).

It is indeed a conversion. It\'s the techmarine body, hacked up a bit so that the regular backpack fits on and the shoulder pads for terminator lightning claws fit (regular claws from the plastic set).
Shoulder pads are from the Forge World Salamander termi shoulder set.

Claws were done (badly) using a base of snakebite leather, followed by bubonic brown, then bleached bone and finally skull white. Blended together using a very poor attempt at feathering.

I\'ll get some new batteries for my camera and take some new pics tonight.

Got some batteries, but since I don\'t have a tripod, it\'s still a bit iffy and the light changes with each picture. Hope these are better.

It\'s just Dark Angel\'s Green as a base coat, then Snot Green, then Scorpion Green for highlights with a few touches of white.

No blending, no feathering or anything fancy.

Shiney look is due to the purity seal I used as I do game with him (though carefully).

Edit:
I tried to alter the pic but I kinda messed up and so had to resubmit it. Click here to rate (link in first post altered).

Anyone now how/if you can alter submission pictures?

I think you\'re being a bit hard on yourself, it\'s a pretty cool Captain to be sure. The shiny finish will make him a bitch to photograph, but if it protects your gaming model then I can\'t argue. I just game with my models Dullcoated, and suffer the consequences.

It\'s a lot easier when you stop touching up the chips and fixing broken parts... if you don\'t actually fix them then it\'s no hassle at all really.

I\'m eager to see more of your stuff, this guy is very fitting for a Salamanders character and a healthy mix of talent and understanding of what a model would look like in the gaming world is a very good thing.

Hullo Dribble Joy. I just saw this over on Warseer. ;) Top work. The neatness and highlighting does indeed do it credit.
