Minis? Expensive. Weekend at ReaperCon? Priceless !
For those of you who did not go to ReaperCon in Denton, Texas this last weekend, you missed out on a great convention and should really consider attending next year. They had very helpful classes taught be sculpting experts (such as Guthrie, Ridolfi, Jackson, and many more.) and painting experts (such as Foerster, Haley, Troy, and many more.) I had a total blast.
I did not have time to enter anything (not that I would have a chance against Philip Esterlee who walked away with 5 sophies out of his 6 entries, as I recall) but there were lots of awards given out, a drawing for goodies, Anne Foerster was a great Emcee and made the Con fun for everyone, the limited edition Sophie was available to buy, bitz galore sold by the ounce, tours of the plant to see how the molds and miniatures are made, and I even learned thing or two in the process about painting and sculpting.
The absolute best part of the Con, however, was dinner with friends after the Con. I put together a little after-Con dinner party for about folks (most of whom I have only known and developed frendships with via internet over the years but never actually met \"in person\").
Those who attended know who you are, so if I don\'t mention you by name, it is not because your presence wasn\'t fabulously aprreciated, but my special thanks to Michael Genet who helped me out when I got LOST on the way to the convention, LOL!. And to Anne for everything ! Wendy I adore you. Patrick and Vicky you two are just awesome treasures. Larry thanks for helping me load my car with my TRUNK of goodies, LOL!. Gus and George you guys are great (but I still am going to have to WATCH you on those ebay auctions \'cause you like to outbid me!), And to Jen and Greg \"Mr, Paintrix\", Lililiana, John, Noel, Werner, Gene--it was wonderful to finally meet you in person and have you join me for dinner. Bobby Jackson and Robert \"Jester\" Cruse you guys are hilarious. Philip, Sue, Amy, Derek, Lazlo, Jason--thanks for making the evening memorable. Julie Guthrie and Bob Ridolfi thanks for the special items you made me and the even more priceless treasure of your presence at my table. I am sure I have inadvertantly failed to list everyone, and my apologies.....
But the Con was great and the Sunday dinner with friends was just heaven, and everyone had a great time. The restaurant had promised to throw us out at closing at 10:00 pm, but the last of us left at around 11:45 pm. LOL !
I will be posting pictures of the convention on my website shortly after I clean up from the hurricane that must have come through my law office during my absence.
This was the 3rd annual ReaperCon (I think), and all I can say, is that I should have started attending from year one.
Mark your calendars for next year!
It is a great experience!
:bouncy:
P.S. Attached is a picture of Bobby Jackson trying to teach me how to sculpt, ....I think I better keep my \"day job\" ...LOL !
