please go at www.reapermini.com and vote for the mini you like most at the painting contest page (you have to register).
(take a look at the femorian giant (or the first and third position at the may contest) in the gallery of the past winners and you\'ll understand WHY i\'m asking you to vote)
Bye and tank you.

Yeah it definately would be nice to have people win on merit rather than who can get the most of their relatives to sign up and vote for them :) Fortunately, Reaper has a backup in that their staff also votes on what they think is the best mini as well...
--Katie G.
By the way, voting won\'t start until Monday the 18th I think.

Hmmm.

Well I have just been over and registered and it was worth while because I see our very own sivousplay has entered a couple of minis in this competition. (I think I know who I might be voting for, unless there is anything better over there, which I doubt).

I see your point about the Fomorian giant. Looks half-finished IMO. Can\'t see the problem with the May entries though. Third place may be a brilliant mini but it\'s photo doesn\'t do it justice and you can only vote on what you can see.

I dont know the painters who won the may contest, but the best mini it\'s CLEARLY the one that won the dyom nominee, the first palce it\'s a normal low-quality work, (drybrushing, inks, no more than 2 shades of colors, and even whitout base) the third mini apart the bad photo seems to be painted with jam.
maybe i\'m not a good painter, but i think you should agree with me that this one:

is better than that thing:

You\'re gonna have to talk me through this one

dyom, what\'s that. I don\'t frequent the Reaper site and this is the first time I have looked at their competition page.

I quite agree with your examples above but I was comparing the mini labelled 1st with the mini labelled 3rd. Which is what you asked for.

Dyom is the design your own mini contest. I think that may be the ones chosen by the Reaper staff.
Also, the contest is supposed to be anonymous, and you are not supposed to have other pics of the mini up on the web when you enter the contest. If you do, you can be disqualified... so if he hasn\'t already, sivousplay should take down his CMoN pic with those minis in it. To be honest I don\'t even think he should have posted them to begin with if he had already posted them here, because it kills the anonymity of the thing, but that is merely opinion, I don\'t think its part of the rules.

What a crazy competition!

Its not my place to comment on the individual details of the above.

But broadly, from what I can see, Reaper want a contestant to take down all images of their mini from the web, including their own sites, for the duration of the competition!!

The winner gets a measly $25 \'gift token\' which costs Reaper b*gger all. Then, and I quote:

All images submitted become the copyright property of RMI.

Well they can shove that....:moon:

No wonder some of the entries look like they \'have been painted with jam\',:bouncy:

sorry finn i was just saying that the first and third place of the may contest (even the second is\'nt that beauty) were probabily voted by the friends (relatives, and probabily even from the pets)of the submitters since they won the public vote contest.

All images submitted become the copyright property of RMI

i think this rule figures in every contest oganized by i specific manufacturer......
but they won\'t get that rich by stealing a lousy 400 x 400 digital photo...... :)

well i\'t\'s part of the rules, but there is non need to say it that loud

;)

just dont tell that the mini is posted here and everything will be ok

:D

after all i can say \"go there and vote for me\" on my website even without attaching the pic, so i find this rule useless

The thing that entertains me the most about the \'don\'t post it anywhere else\' rule is that pretty much anybody who enters who you\'re going to vote for in the first place has a recognizable style (usually, and I know that is a generality, but still...). I tend to think folks could recognize my stuff by finding the crappy mini in front of a grey t-shirt pic.......

I mean honestly....did anybody NOT know last month\'s winner was Jenova? Not to mention that she had in progress pics of that mini up on her site for a while before hand (not that I care, she still got my vote cause the piece was very well done).

I had a small discussion with Anne on the minipainter list about it...basically, the system they have is as good as its gonna get. :bouncy::flip::D

I\'m not really complaining about it, a contest will never be truly \"anonymous\" anyways. A bunch of people would recognize mine right off the bat since they had seen me paint it :p And frankly I don\'t care if the pic becomes their property, heck so long as they gave me credit I\'d love if they put it in Casketworks or whatever (not that mine is going to get that far mind you, but in principle). I just want to make sure people know not to post their stuff anywhere else on the web, cause I\'d hate to see what is (IMHO) the obvious winner lose out because of a rules thing. I think it just came out wrong :p You people are supposed to read my thoughts, didn\'t you know that? :)

Congrats on 100, KatieG. :)

I think I was complaining more about that particular rule than you were. I think it\'s silly - and I\'ve said so. I also wonder about the popular vote thing, it\'s obvious ballot stuffing is taking place. Not that they can really stop that I guess, but it\'s still annoying to see.

While we are all being mellow...

I should perhaps add that my ire at the:

\"All images submitted become the copyright property of RMI.\"

Stems from the fact that I am far more of a photographer than I am a mini painter and things like this always make my blood boil. Steal my image Goddamit!

But if others are cool with this then that\'s fine:bouncy:

I don\'t suppose I mind the image thing all that much. I can see your point, though.

Then again, isn\'t there the same caveat here at CMON?

You are probably right

I wouldn\'t be bothered quite so much about that because:

CMON is more of a community, of which I feel a part.

Only recently has there been an overt commercial aspect, but I fully support what Chern Ann is trying to do. The books and the minis are all great.

You get a huge amount in return for your investment. The presentation of minis on CMON is superb. The forums are here for everyone to enjoy.

I haven\'t submitted any images, as yet, but would have no difficulty in doing so because of the \'club like\' atmosphere. I would just feel like I was \'helping out\'.

The most important reason however, is that I paint like a monkey on crack and so Chern Ann would be more than welcome to sell on my images to the highest bidderlollol

Bah

Like I say about my contest I guess, if you don\'t like it, don\'t participate. I have continuously posted work that is old, and I have no intention of taking images down from anywhere on the web. Also, they can keep my silly pictures. I have many more :)

Anoniminity? Who cares. A great painter should have a distinctive style. Jim\'s work speaks for itself. There is NO anoniminity.

Sorry to sound harsh, but I go through all the silly complaining almost every month with my own contest. Accept it or don\'t play I say :D

Oh, I accept it. I\'m in Reaper\'s contest every month, just like I\'m in the Toadstool every month.

I just don\'t follow the rules I don\'t like. :) :) :p :flip: :bouncy:

Well i wasn\'t really \"complaining\" i just said \"go there and vote for the mini you like\", maybe, that with some painter between the voters, the contest will look more \"fair\".

but after all it\'s not that important to me, soon i\'l have some \"seriuos\" contest to worry about .... :)

about the rules i agree with you
Accept it or don\'t play :)

I had honestly never noticed the \"obliged to remove other online images\" statement in the rules ... I\'ve taken down the offending entry so as to not cause any trouble.

Has this ever happened?

Has anyone ever heard of a winner being denied the prize because he/she had the picture up somewhere else? Not just here, but I\'ve also seen them on eBay. Just wondering...???
