Hey everyone, this is my first post to the forums! :D

This is a Reaper Warlord figure I painted after attending the Reaper Artist Con in October using a new technique I learned for painting hair and fur. Check him out and let me know what you think. Thanks!

Hi Vicky and welcome to the forums. I hope you dont get put off by the guys here. they may be a liitle blunt but they mean well. I mean after all we spend all our time painting toy soldiers so we cant be taken too serious.

OK on to your first post. Very nice for a first post. One thing you shouldnt do is under rate your mini when you post it. IMHO it was a 7.5 at least. Nicely painted. the loin cloth could have used some free hand but that just my tastes. I voted an 8 cause I think its that good. I hope we see yo again in the forums and the mini section.

That guy is cool! I love the dark mood you have created. The fur technique is very realistic, and that green color looks stellar.

I vote a 9!

Oh and welcome to the forums!!

I really like the contrast between the \"furry\" fur and the satiny fabric of the loincloth. You seem to have a real flair for textures. The bones really look like bones, from a texural view, as does the walkingstick look like wood. Very nice!

Welcome to the Forums. Hang around and enjoy.

Thanks to all of you for the warm welcome and wonderful comments! I appreciate your encouragement very much!

I\'m glad you all liked the fur. My husband and I recently attended Reaper\'s Artist Con and one of the classes I attended was about painting fur and hair textures taught by Reaper\'s staff painter, Anne Foerster. It was great! The technique is wet on wet for the base coat and I used photo reference as a guide for the color fur I wanted. I think the process works very well.

Looking forward to seeing all of your work, too! Thanks, again!

Hiya Vicky, did the vote thing. My first thoughts on the photos are they\'re a little small and a touch dark, makes it difficult to try to judge the actual appearance. On the painting, the fur areas I think are generally quite nice, good transitions from colour to colour, and I do like the dark base. Personally I would like the highlights on the green to be a touch more neutral (just a taste thing) and overall for there to be a little more directional lighting, AKA overhead or zenithal shading.

Underrating is bad? I thought it would come across as modesty. Definitely better than overrating though I bet :)
