Ranger Hunters, First Time Painting

First time painting my miniatures, just need to base them.
Any opinions/advice or tips/thoughts would be much appreciated!
(P.s. sorry they're sideways I didn't know it had to be landscape...)

Welcome to the boards!!

They look pretty good, especially for your first time. We’re you using Contrast paints?

To me, it’s the little things that make the biggest impact. So I’d suggest working on cleaning up your edges, and don’t be afraid to pick out the small details, such as metal buckles and studs. The more the eye has to look at, the less chance it settles on any mistakes you may have made.

As for basing, I can’t speak to that too much because I’m currently just painting them a flat color, and doing the trays the same. I’ve seen some amazing examples of basing on here tho, so I’m sure someone will be along to share tips. Personally, I’ve considered using CW textured paints (Astrogranite for example), or “painting” the base in a thinned down layer of glue then dipping it in flocking material. You can get flocking from any hobby store that carries models and/or trains.

Overall, good job and keep it up!! Always glad to see new painters!!

Yeah I used all contrast paint except for the fur cloaks, and also the pictures don't show it too well but I actually did do all the buckles in metal??????thanks for the feedback and encouragement????????????

Cool! I think the contrast paints are great. You can do a lot of tricks with them. I have been considering using the black for Night’s Watch, instead of priming in black. It’s encouraging to see how it turned out for you.

Really great first effort, you should be proud! The backpacks and bedrolls in particular turned out great.
A couple tips:
Use a lot of contrast medium, and do two thin coats rather than one, especially with the darker contrast colors. I've gotten better results this way, particularly with cygor brown.
The gray gloves of the guys in the front rank kind of stick out and are flat looking. Try hitting them with an ink wash (like Army Painter Strong tone ink) to bring out the fingers and make them stick out less (they are very light compared to the rest of the model).
Take the time to scrape off the mold lines in the future. It is worth the time (like the one running down their bows)

Again, these are a great first effort. And the above tips are offered in a friendly spirit.
