Ral Partha

Just wondering: I looked around and couldn't find anything definitive about why they went out of business. I used to be a big fan of them, even collect their catalogs (the 88-89 is one of the best mini catalogs ever), but can't seem to find anything that points to a specific reason (like, for example, Rackham).

If anyone has some information, I'd love to hear.

They had some really great dragons in their line. You can still get the Golden Dragon of Chaos, from Dark sword. That was a limited edition run when Ral Partha first put it out, I got one of the originals.

Iron Wind Metals, 2001–presentIn late 2001 Ral Partha was spun off from WizKids and renamed Iron Wind Metals, LLC, with longtime general manager Michael Noe as president.[70] Iron Wind Metals reestablished production with Mark Rubin, an original owner, and much of the same staff, molds, and license agreements. They continue to use the name Ral Partha in reference to the early designs and produce figures under license from Ral Partha-era sculptors.

I'm pretty sure you can still get Ral Partha Classics from their on-line store. Google Iron Wind Metals.

Ral Partha were heavily invested in the production of the Original models for D&D and AD&D, including characters figures and Elmore classics.
When TSR went to WOTC and the license expired (or was refused renewal) I think they took a very heavy loss, damn shame.
I'm lucky enough to still have some classic Ral Partha's.

:) I meant the short lived WOTC unpainted mini line. This is the black dragon:

Black%20Dragon%20Final%20copy.jpg

He's based on the artwork from the WOTC AD & D monster manual. He was only available for a short time and it's a shame that they didn't make more dragons for that range, because the artwork was really nice. The casting wasn't brilliant though and he took quite a bit of filing, drilling and pinning. Reaper also brought out a very similar black dragon called Ebonwrath. I bought him years ago and he is still in a box unpainted.

I was into mini's around the early 90's when I was a kid. I ran into this same issue when I got back into this hobby. I was looking for Wargames West and Ral Partha only to fid out they don't exist... Ironwind has a few, but you have to hunt Ebay to get some old OOP minis. Since they are 25mm it seems to me that most people don't really look for them much anymore, Even the Dragon Lance Minis are going down in price. around 2008 I paid 75.00 For a red Dragon of Krynn (10-500), the last one I bought was for $35.00

The TSR Battlesystem rule books are great for showing off their minis also. Tom Meier is one of the best ever and he mad tons of RP minis. He has his one company with wicked minis

I always wondered what happened to Julie Gruthrie. Since I LOVE the old RP skeletons, I wish she made new ones in 32mm...

Attached is a page from the TSR 2nd edition Battlesystem Rule book and pages 22 & 23 from the 1993 Catalog
