Questions about a Tripod

OK

I got the digi camera and played around with it for a couple days now...

When I started to take some close up pictures I realized quickly the importance of a tripod and the timer setting everyone was talking about

Question: Should I but a special type of tripod, or does it even matter. I guess I am pretty green at this but I am curious... is a tripod just a tripod or are there various characteristics to look for?

As long as it keeps your camera still, doesn\'t fall over and you can set it up how you want to set it up, then it doesn\'t really matter.

If all you\'re going to use it for is photographing figures, you can get a more than adequate one for a few quid.

A pile of books works too :)

Edit: I\'ve got something almost identical to this and it\'ll take a gripped 40D with macro lens:

Random tripod.....

Bargain for 17 bucks.

At home, I use one that is more adjustable like SM just showed you. Nice to be able to crank the camera up or down without having to do a complete reset.

I use a small mini tripod for my digi cam when I\'m shooting stuff at conventions, etc. Similar to this one:

Actually I was looking up some articles about making a light box ad found a couple ideas on what I want to make.

If you might want it for other kinds of photography it\'s worth getting a normal, full-size, tripod. If you want one just for mini photography then the desktop model might be better, but it depends on your setup.
