Question for anyone

This is a question for anyone really but if one of the artists in the top artists category responded that would be cool...

Do the top artists all sculpt there own work or do some of them \"just\" paint. I am curious because I just started this hobby at 35 years old and am having fun with it.

I would also like to know more about the contest culture such as how many there are and what are the major ones. Thanks for your time and I hope this all fits under this group. Thanks again.

Well, I got up to #10 on the site at the moment and of my top 5, four of them are just painted, the 5th is probably 90% out of the box, with maybe 10% sculpted. So I\'ve basically done it with just painting, although at the moment I am learning to sculpt better, but I haven\'t posted any of that work yet. There is nothing which says you MUST sculpt in order to be competative on the site or in competitions.

HOWEVER, if you have the ability to sculpt in a little more wow factor to your minis, that certainly does not hurt!

As for competitions, I can only speak for the US, but I know there are FAR more in Europe. But in the US we have the 4 Games Workshop games days (ATL, LA, Baltimore, Chicago), then probably the top independent competition is at Gencon. Reaper also has a competition, and I think just about every major gaming convention has a competition of some sort.

I hope that helps, keep enjoying your painting! Welcome to the forums

well.....its a mix. im no top artist, but i think we all dabble in every area. to be the top, just be the best at what you like to do.

eric gave you the heads up about the big comps, but for people like myself there are a number of on line comps that are much more feasable. the golden toadstoll has regular comps running continuously and can be great fun. many sellers often have their own comps as well. keep your eyes peeled in the news forum to find some. goosd luck!
