Looking for some techniques for a quartered paint scheme on my new army. the plan is to use an ice blue/red gore combination. any sugestions, from undercoat color to highlight mixtures, will help.

thanx

I think for start explaining that you dont actually want to quarter space marines will help.

I get the feeling a lot of people would like to see an astartes in four parts.

But, going for an ice blue Id say to start with a white undercoat, and work back down to the red, red covers nicely, but light colours can be hard to get.

What paints do you intend to use?

better title?

I use GW paints. mostly because the hobby stores around here don\'t carry anything better than a limited tamiya or testors selection.

Haha, its ok, blue space marines have a bad name round some parts.

Where you from anyway?

For ice blue and deep red I would, personally, start on a white undercoat, then work your qaurter lines out in black, and fill in the bits for the red, then go for a red gore shade, working your way up to a lighter shade, then ink it back down to where you want.

For the ice blue, I forget the actual colour in the GW range, but there is an ice blue shade floating around, and Id say to dry brush the blue from the middle out, to get the shade of the white coming through at the edge of the box.

Well, I\'m doing my marines in an Elf Flesh/Dark Angels Green scheme, not quartered, but more alternating (think White Panthers). And when doing a very bright and very dark colour, either primer, white or black, will be a PITA for one colour. For dark red and bright blue, I\'d rather go for black primer, actually. GW blues to cover nicely on black, and with a base of Ultramarine or Enchanted Blue on black, Ice Blue or similar can look good. And imho reds look better on black anyway.
my 2 cents/€

to answer your question bengoodall: louisville, KY. think rednecks trying to copy st. louis, MO and failing at it.

Ok, i got the painting planed (i\'ll try both undercoats on some test models), but once i figured that out i realised I need a name and symbol for the chapter. defenetly knights of something, but I\'ve looked through biblical names for hours and havent found anything that matches blood and water very well (as that\'s the theme I\'m going for). any sugestions?

there\'s a space marine name generator on the GW site that may help..
failing that put what you want in a latin translator and see what it throws up ..

Okay, I googled blood and water and a biblical reference came up about when Jesus was pierced with the spear, mentioned out flowed blood and water. Not sure if that\'s any help at all.

How about something simple like Aqua Sanguis or Aqua Encarmine?

Thanks for the help guys. Knights of Longinus it is, with a spear or lance symbol. I\'ll be posting in the wip forum soon so keep an eye out. I\'ll defenitly need more help with putting it together.
