First Rackham and now PP is getting into the Pre-painted scene.

Fans of Warmachine and Hordes will be happy to hear that their games are staying the same and that the pre-painted minis will be for a new game coming out in \'08.

Have to admit it sounds like fun from a gaming standpoint.

From the PP website:

\"The Privateer Press home page announces Privateer Press\' intentions of releasing a pre-painted collectible miniatures game about giant monsters! From the press release on their website:

SEATTLE, WA – Privateer Press, Inc., publisher of the hit tabletop miniatures games WARMACHINE® and HORDES™, announced today its plans to produce a pre-painted collectible miniatures game (CMG) named Monsterpocalypse.

Monsterpocalypse brings the kaiju (loosely translated from Japanese as ‘giant monster’) genre – a pop culture favorite – to the tabletop in the form of a fast-paced, action-packed CMG. Designed by Matt Wilson, the award winning creator of WARMACHINE and HORDES, Monsterpocalypse leverages the critically acclaimed abilities of Privateer Press as a leading miniatures manufacturer to enter a new category of product with a property that will appeal to a world-wide fan base of all ages.

“We’ve had great success in the hobby miniatures category, and we will continue to support and expand our offerings there. We are excited to grow the company in this new direction. Creating a property about giant monsters is a natural fit for us and something I’ve always wanted to do.” said Wilson.

The Monsterpocalypse CMG will launch with over 80 figures in the initial set and will include large-scale monsters, destroyable city structures, and vehicles. It is planned for release at retail in 2008. Figures will be sold in randomized booster packs and non-randomized starter games, and special figures will be available at events throughout 2008. Visit www.privateerpress.com for photos of prototype models and updates about the game.

Currently there are three sample prototype models on display on their site-and two of them give you a nice 360 degree view of the model. Not a lot of information available at this time, but there is a letter from the Creative Director to the players of WARMACHINE and HORDES that outlines support for those games continue. \"

Can\'t say I\'m suprised by PP making their own pre-painted stuff. As i said back when Rackham announced they were doing it, pre-painted miniatures is the currently populer selling idea. I do have to say that the prototypes do look nice but i highly, highly doubt the marketable probuct will look as nice.

I\'m torn on this. I have a fair bit of trust that PP can make it fun, but the fact that it\'s \"collectible\" just torques me. The concept of purchasing multiple mystery packs just to acquire super rare Space Monster Zero offends my sensibilities both as a wargamer and as a painter.

At least AT-43 let\'s you buy what you want to field.

Meh, the kiddies just trade \'em to get the ones they want. I think they enjoy that. I\'d probably just assemble my force from the showcase at the shop, or eBay, if I played these. Probably cheaper in the long run :)

Well...

You know... I think this is so much different than Rackham\'s version.

See, PP isn\'t getting rid of their metal minis line. They are going after a new market, not trying to compete with themselves. If Monsterpocolypse is awesome, it will take off, but it won\'t draw gamers away from Hordes and Warmachine.

Really. PP fans, this game is not meant for you!
