Price Increse (Not GW)

Yeah, I saw that. It\'s good rationale for a price increase, I suppose.

I had thought the new cavalry models were pricey compared to the rest of the line, but now I see that they had the tin price increase built in... everything else is just catching up.

Yeah when I worked for Ral Partha and we switched to Pewter in the early 90\'s the price was somewhere around $3.00 a pound and that was up from the $1.00 a pound or less we paid for lead alloy that was being used befor that. Today Ive herd the price of pewter is closeing in on $8.00 a pound for casting houses. this is only going to be passed onto the consumer in the end.

Same goes for plastic figures. Plastic is made from oil, 4-5 years ago oil was $25 dollars a barrel. Today its about $65 and has been as high as $80.00. This can only affect the rise in prices.

Its all part of doing business, I suppose...

I thought their minis were high priced before any announcement...

I bought the TOTEM HUNTER mini at a retail store, and paid about 17 dollars for it.

I think, if anything we should be consistant....if we complain about GW or other high priced minis, PP should also get complained about.

we should also only critisie farily. your totem hunter isn\'t getting any price rise. nothing from hordes is.

basically the older the model the bigger the rise. it\'s mostly prime stuff that getting the bullet but even some superiority stuff that was made and released early is getting some price adjustment.

it\'s not a flat rate either it it all model by model. for instance the ironclad is it hit hard with 5$ increase but the later stormclad, which is close to it\'s weight, is only going up $3.

Funny that, the graph shown giving tin prices over the years shows a drop by $3 in 2005, but I do not recall any of the manufacturers lowering their prices to reflect this! lol

In all seriousness though, a business is a business, and they are there to make money. If the price of raw materials rises then it is inevitable that the cost of the final product to the customer is gonna rise too. After all, the workers still have to put food in their families stomachs.

At least Privateer press has had the decencey to explain to its customers the reason behind the price rises, and also tried to take other steps to avoid passing these costs on to the customer.

(They could have just put a teensey paragraph in a magazine saying \'next month everythings going to be more expensive so muster all the money you have in the world and buy a shedload of our stuff now!\'\' or words to that effect!)

There WILL have to come a point however when the customer cannot simply justify spending X ammount of money on a 30mm lump of pewter.

So now the REAL reason for the Iraq war!

It\'s a well known fact that the military uses tons of miniatures for playing... errr, I mean PLANING strategies. Not to mention Robin Williams is an avid gamer, and he is friends with Arnold Swartzenegger, who in turn was an advisor to george Bush sr.

Yes... it\'s all becoming very clear now......

;)lol

i know your joking but just so everyone knows the graph shows it was still more than when they set the price for minis in 2003.
my guess is the metal went up and pp thought about raisning prices then but then it dropped so they didn\'t. of course it hasn\'t dropped again and it\'s pretty crazy.

pp has either been making a loss or just breaking even on a whole lot of it\'s original line. seems fair enough to want some return on their product.

I have no problem at all with a company trying to make money...thats what keeps the people in business making the goodies we want.

My only point was that PP seemed to be getting a pass, while if GW did the same thing, there would be calls for their heads.

My criticism of the Totem Hunters price was to point out the fact that their prices have ALWAYS been high, but no one complains about it.

I still feel this is a very affordable hobby, and WILL buy the products, regardless of the price.

Well its easy to justify it when you buy ONE 30mm lump of pewter.. NOT 1000 and horde/hide them in the basement, attic, spare bedroom, closet, garden shed or where ever mini addicts hide their minis! If people exercised a small amount of fiscal control they would be fine.. oh hell what am I talking about Im gonna buy something pewter before the weeks out and chances are Ill never paint it

I had this same discussion the other day with a retailer who likes to push miniature games by companies other than Games Workshop using the reasoning that they were all cheaper than Games Workshop..even though I kept pointing out that at almost all cases Miniatures by Rackham and PP and Mongoose were more expensive than GW\'s his reasoning that you needed less to play the game made it cheaper ???

For a gamer that is a rather valid argument.

If models cost 3$ a piece from one company but you need 150 to play you will end up spending more than if you needed 20 models at 5$ a pop.

For painters it\'s pointless, they will simply buy the pretiest limps of metal. ;)

It\'s a very valid point.
All too often we seem to have a lynch mob mentality about GW.
