Pre-model concept discussion: Bioshock \'Big Daddy\'-esque pirate mercenary warcaster

I\'ve recently been smitten with the Warmachine bug, and I\'m in love with the mercenary pirates. In particular, I\'m fond of their warjacks like the Freebooter and the Mariner...

... due in no small part to their resemblance to the Big Daddies in Bioshock, which I adored.

So I\'ve been wanting to base a small force around these guys. I\'m not looking at much more than skirmish games with a warcaster and a few jacks. However, the problem then becomes what do I do for my warcaster? None of the existing pirate merc casters strike my fancy that much, and none really adhere to the theme I have in mind, so I figured I\'d just make my own and use him as a \'counts-as\' warcaster for someone like Bartolo Montador.

I stumbled upon this image from Bioshock 2 and I think it\'d make a fantastic warcaster for the army I have in mind.

I figure this guy, with some sort of steampunk-ish pistol and sword, would make the ideal warcaster for what I want.

The problem is that I\'m a bit of a rubbish sculptor, so I can\'t really just grab an armature and go from scratch on making this.

Thus we arrive at the point of this thread. I\'ve been combing over the more obscure miniature brands looking for something that might work, and I\'ve not had a great deal of success. I\'m obviously not going to find something that is 100% right for this model, but I\'m trying to find something that I can at least add to to make the above.

I\'m throwing this up here in the hopes that I\'ll get a few good recommendations to serve as a starting point. I seem to remember a miniature range that had some sort of field engineers in baggy fatigues that looked a bit like what this guy\'s wearing, but I have no idea where I saw it. Either way, I figure if I can find something close that I can add the diving helmet / details to, I\'ll be in business.

So... any ideas?

On a tangentally related topic, I\'m interested in knowing of any 28mm-scaled anchors, because I\'m going to be converting a couple of the \'regular\' merc warjacks like the Mangler to a more nautical theme.

Pretty cool! There is a company that makes a near-big daddy that is okay. I bought a bunch, but I can\'t remember form where!

@jamsessionein

you could also do some conversion work:

one of the undead Cryx Pirates has a head like the one your looking for
click

and you could put him on the body of broadside bart:

one of the PP Staff members did this conversion in Noquarter Magazin and it does look pretty amazing. if you like i can post the issue of NQ where this was featured.

btw: starting a pirate army myself in addition to my cryx army, already got Mr. Rockbottom and i symply love the sculpt:beer:

I actually grabbed one of those big daddy miniatures a while ago for use in my Ork army and never used it. I pulled it back out when I started looking at getting into Warmachine, but truth be told, I don\'t like it as a warcaster. It\'s a bit too unsophisticated-looking, and the cast they sold me was very poor, nothing like the green.

I dug through the CMON store earlier and came across both the Mad Puppet mini and the Incursion one. Of the two, I was actually thinking the Mad Puppet one would be easier to work with, as the Incursion one wouldn\'t really easily adapt to a sword-and-pistol setup.

Truthfully, I\'m not looking for miniatures that are explicitly \'diving helmet\' ones to work from, because none of the ones I\'ve found have had the right shape helmet to them. I think I\'m more looking for an appropriately-shaped and sized model in fatigues similar to the suit, because I can\'t sculpt folds in cloth worth a damn. Adding the helmet would actually be easier for me than adding the suit, if you know what I mean.

And I thought you were going to put some slicks on it and a blower out the top to make it more like Big Daddy Roth\'s stuff:
