Pre Heresy/Early Marine Armour Build

Ive always been interested in the look of the early marine armour but the GW minis suck so I didnt want to have any in my armies.

Ive made a pre heresy style termie squad before with fairly good success so I have decided to do a few \"normal\" Marines.

Im going for a MkIII \"Iron Armour look, this is just the initial kit bash stage-most of the heraldry will be filed off the armour plates and the model tidied up more (flashing etc) but I just wanted to get the initial one blue tacced together whilst the creative juices were flowing.

Killer heels lol

They will have armour cleats round the edge one I have got some more thin plasticard strips (helps give the figure height without having to cut the legs)

Managed to do some more work on this project.
The thin plasticard is on order as are the cables from Dragonforge (who is on holiday though so I have to wait for those)

The plan is to make a small army from this project. I have made Terminators in the past

Compilation.jpg

I feel I can refine their design and hope to make:
1x HQ (not sure what yet)
1x Terminator Squad
2X Marine Squads
1x Assault Squad

I plan to use a mixture of Pre Heresy armour types in the army and maybe theme the different squads to the various pre heresy Legions...?

Comments and suggestions always welcome

Very cool.
The only thing that I see that I believe is \"Unfuffy\" is that the shoulder guard shouldn\'t be studded. At was something that loyalists had to do for the Horus Hersey do to inferior materials.

Oh, and no Aquilas. Only the Emperor\'s Children worn those in the begining. Although those MK3 models have one on them ??????

I know the fluff states that rivets on armour plates comes from the extra armour being \"riveted\" into place to face an enemy armed with bolters, but I like the look of it and Im basing the look of these models on some of the artwork in the Horus Heresy books (both the 4 part series and the ongoing saga).

As for Aquillas-yep with you on that one-but winged skulls etc I dont have a problem with (also no Crux Terminus)!

They\'re looking really cool, love the big shoulders on the Termies. Have you got a link to max minis? I googled it but only found a forum :S

Have you considred using grandt line rivets instead of cutting them from plastic rod? You can get a size which is identical to the size of the bolts ont the studded shoulder pads which would look ace

They are looking stellar indeed.

I apologize, but am not up on the \'fluff\' very well. What does \'Pre-Heresy\' indicate, in a nutshell?

it means before the heresy

aaaaaanyway, basically the empire of man was one and united in capturing the stars in the name of the emperor. then horus, son and warmaster or the crusade, turned on him. the horus heresy.

so basically it was a time when the now bad guys were still good guys

Bit of an update. (Apologies for the poor pictures but its late and the camera battery was dying)

Got some more work done. Ive started to use some Chaos parts (nothing over the top or with icons on) to add a mixed feel to the figures-it also helps add a narrative flow as you can imagine the armour evolving into the fully fledged chaos stuff we are used too.

I am using the Horus Heresy books as my pictorial references for this figures rather than just the \"codex\" pictures of the various armour types. To this end I have also decided to \"flavour\" the squads along the lines of the various legions

This pic shows the first mini now with extra armour on the lower leg plates and cabling added at the neck and arms and an early prototype I made for Iron Armour (its sprayed black because i wasnt sure how some green stuff work I had done would look when painted).

The second photo shows the very early prototypes (on blue tacked together so I can see how they look) for my Thousand son inspired squad (on the left) and my World Eaters inspired assault Marines (on the right)-I will try using a mix of normal and running legs on this squad

The final photo shows them against a normal marine to give a size comparisson

Oh this is inspiring!

Bought a box of Thousand Sons today that im looking to go pre-heresy with and this is exactly the kind of thread that could inspire and give tips on what to do to make my TS as nice as possible.

Looking great so far and, would really like to see more!
