Power Weapons...

There may already be a thread on here somewhere but I was wonder about techniques for making power weapons? What do people usually to make the different effects of shimmering, electricity, glowing etc...

Just curious.

I use a technique i found on Bolter and Chainsword. Its essentially the same as how Anja Wettergren painted the sword on the space hulk sgt. Base the sword black, then using a dark shade of blue, line out where you want the lightning to occur. Then you simply build up lines of lighter blues until you are adding specs of white here and there. You can add glazes after each step to lighten the weapon overall and add to the glowing effect though i like keeping the stark contrast between the light blue and black.

Ok, sort of like a layering from dark to light? Whats a good glaze to use. I'll I have ever used is Citadel paints so I'm a noob when it comes to all the others. I have used the hard coat. Oh, I do use Tamiya clear green, blue, and red at times. These are fantastic.
