Howland Reed
is most likely ignored especially as CMON has not released a unit of crannog men to use his tactic card bonus. I want to share some of his benefits right now, unlike all the other commanders in the Stark faction Howland Reed is not attached to a unit and has NCU ability to access the tactic board. What that means is he is not every in danger of being killed or removed from the game. It is always wise to have two NCU's as most of the basic tactic cards give a bonuses if you occupy the combat or maneuver positions on the tactic board . With Howland Reed you now can have a third NCU for no point cost to you, this is a huge advantage as you can always block one of the Lannisters bonus slots, the crown and wealth. Howland Reed should be activated early before the Lannister can take up those slots. So if you need to beef up a one of your units with replacements or panic a Lan unit that has lower moral, you can as at the same time you block 1/2 of the lannister bonuses, BUT Wait that is not all! you also can attach him to the most threatening enemy unit and lower their attack by -1 that is a 17% decrees in their attacking ability. so with your 2 other NCU's you can access your bonuses positions or completely block the Lannisters from theirs. So just because Reed stinks of swamp water dose not stop you from using him to dominate the tactic board in your next game.

Good points, sure Howland Reed is worth considering, especially when Stark player is to face an army reliant on tactics board. The problem however is what you pointed out - no Crannog troops available at this point, so no thematic army composition or strong synergies possible.
But anyways, Howland is definitely worth a try :)

I’m hoping that will change here in about a month or so. Provided there are no delays.

Tho I do hope to see more than just one unit eventually. Or at least an attachment that adds the Crannog affiliation, like we have with Umber and Clegane.
