Yeah, I watch Mythbusters pretty regularly, so I've seen this one.

Not sure of it as a hobby, but it was kinda cool!

seen that one as well. The question that I have is what is the reason behind the dirt ball thing. Some sort of Bushido/Zen thing?

Yes Mike you could be right

Dunno mud duck, but it sure is a cheap way to keep the kids entertained :smile-big:

Hobby maybe, or ornamentation..

Just imagine the first dorodango salesmen to europeans way back when and how much they could make considering it costs nothing.

I wondered about the episode too.
The show explained the expression....you can't polish S**t ( turd ).
I assumed it was the same as...you can't make a silk purse out of a pigs ear.
Polishing turd would be easier to show on the episode than making silk put of a pigs ear.

I've always heard the saying as "You can polish a turd, but it's still a turd."
Usually, this was a reference to those guys who do all kinds of bodywork to a crappy car. Like putting a great paint job, great rims, and a spoiler on a Yugo.
It may look better, but it's still crap.

Umm, but you can polish a coprolith. Which is simply a turd that has turned to stone.:giggle:

My grandmother swore one of the rocks she had in her front yard was a fossilized dino turd - she was too much of a meat and potatoes kind of gal to use the term coprolite.
