Polished Marble?

Greetings,

Can anybody point me to a good tutorial for painting polished marble surfaces? I've got several bases that I need to make look like marble and I'm just not getting it to happen.

Thanks.

Colour, smoothness or finish problems? Or a bit of more than one?

Technique-wise, it's best to break it down into simple stages that are easily replicated. And the basic method is very simple, as outlined in many books and guides on faux finishes: work base colour upwards, usually doing any veining last or next to last. Then apply a satin or gloss coat if required.

Perfect Airhead! Thanks for the link. Thanks too Einion for the tips. I had been trying to brush all of the marbling over the base coat which just wasn't working. I can see that difference with the faux techniques.

Thanks again.

I have been playing with this little chap in my spare time at work....and I went for a "Marble" effect base, the Macro on my camera is vicious and shows every micron of paint out of place, it looks better in real life, you are probably seeing this 5x bigger than it is - depending on your monitor, but to do this easy, paint white, then a thin irregular line of bleached bone...then wash to one side with water to leech the colour out, then an even thinner irregular line of scorched brown, and again leach out the same way, then a coat of "ardcoat"

He is very much a work in progress.
