I must be getting old and losing track of developments in our woderful language, but I have noticed recentlya rash of \"pimpin\'\", \"pimpage\" and other variations on \"pimp\". When I follow through these topics I find miniature painters simply wanting to show their efforts and seeking criticism (hopefully favourable) thereof.
I cannot for the life of me understand the derivation of the new words since a pimp is a man living off the earnings of prostitutes or brothels, a pander or a ponce, and pimping is a C17th term meaning small, mean or sickly. I doubt any of you would own up to these descriptions of self.
I know if I ask for enlightenment as to the connection I will get a LOT of answers but why not someone try.
