Photo taking help

Can someone give me a suggestion for taking a better photo? This is a Feona I\'m working on:

For the details of the photo:

I\'m using a Cybershot DSC-S600, And I have the flash off. I\'m using a daylight florescent bulb positioned directly behind and above the camera and I took this picture from about 14-16 cm away from the mini. ISO set to 80, white balance set to florescent bulb (If I set it to daylight or auto the photos come out even bluer) Center AF, wide angle, 0 EV correction, normal saturation, high contrast, high sharpness. I\'ve got the quality on high at 6m pixels. The camera is sitting on a pile of books on the table with the miniature, and I\"m using the timer feature to take the photo. Any suggestions?

1. not enough light. A single bulb is generally not enough light for this type of work. (Look at portrait studios, they use at least 2 with a flood on the background.)

2. Your light meter is balancing for the whole pic, including the background. If the background is brighter than the mini, it is like taking a pic of someone standing in front of a window. You get a wonderful silohete. If your camera has the ability, set the light meter to only read the middle of the fram. (just the mini).

Help -
* get more light,
* set the camera to expose a brighter pic (I have a +/- button, try +1 or +2)
* Get a photo cube to diffuse the light that you are getting - this was the biggest help to my photos. See my sig for a link to a diy or watch ebay for some decent deals (watch shipping as there are a few that will stick it to you there.)
