Pate's Death Guard

So I bought some new minis, aven though I barely have time to paint. This means that my Eldar are spending the winter inside the closet, accompanied by my unfinished dwarves.

I've began painting on a test mini, and so far I'm pretty satisified with the result. It's about halfway done and I've begun painting the rest of the army to the same state as the testmini. Once I've done that, and have an army that looks ok on the gaming table, I'll go further.

What's left is pretty much highlighting the mini and picking out some details.

Please ignore the bone-shoulderpad, it's sloppy as hell in this picture but it has been remade since:)

This is going to be the project that I finish. The army is lovely to game with and I've got some really awesome mini's to paint! 14 plague marines, 7 regular CSM and a Rhino that I will do some basic conversions on, 5 Terminators that I've got the FW death guard terminator conversion kit for and a FW Death Guard Dreadnaught with 2 CCW. Oooh, I almost forgot the head of the army, my Chaos Space Marine Daemon Prince of Nurgle.

What's in favor of me actually finishing this project is that the minis are a blast to paint, in opposite to eldar and dwarves wich were a complete pain in the ass to paint.

There some "slime", or whatever it's supposed to be, on the plague marines and I'm thinking of painting that in a blueish color, highlight it and all that, and then apply a gloss warnish to it. Good or bad Idea?

C&C welcome:)

Focals

Looking good so far. I would suggest extending the 'green' theme with some nice, bright green 'neon' focal points, ideally with some OSL effects, like in the eyes, & maybe on the weapon somewhere too. This, coupled with some black-lining on the bones, & a bit more weathering, should give this a nice look. For inspiration, I would advise watching this clip:

Edit to add: I suspect making the mold/slime bluish would make it kinda 'Tweentchy' whereas it seems to want to go in a more 'Nurglesque' direction as it stands... I would stick with browns: mud, crud, & dried blood.

Nice green. I think you could work a bit more on the skulls on the bolter and the backpack. And, is it a mouldline on the backpack on the second and the last picture?

Yes, the skulls are only based, so they definetely need more work:p And yes, it's a mold line. It was left there for your pleasure!;D

7 Plague Marines are now about 50% done. I'm thinking that they're good enough to play with now and am therefor considering to paint the entire army to this standard before finishing the other 50%.

Dear pate,

I am sorry, but the minies are not quite my taste. But the painting is really great!

But I have a little question. I have spotted someting shiny blue ( in the middle) on your photo. What is it?

Greetings, Taggi

Thank you:) I'm not sure these mini's are in anyones taste. They're more sort of disgusting in a strangely appealing manner:p

The blue you have spotted is the charger, or whatever it's called, on a plasmagun. It's only based so far, but I plan on it being my first attempt at OLS^^

I kinda like them. They're nice in a creepy, rotting kind of way. My favorite bits are the backpacks and the bony parts.

Cheers!

Thanks:) My favourite parts are the skin on the heads of the bareheaded marines^^

Thanks:). It doesn't really show that much yet but once done the shoulderpas, and the bottomhalf of the legs, will be more of a sandy yellow color (the areas inside the rims that is). A lot of the green still shows through the layers. But if you look, and you know that it's there, you can see that there's a color difference between those areas and the rest:p

The bone has only been based, washed, layered once and then washed again. It will recieve a couple of more of those treatments before I move onto highlighting. The rest of the parts have been washed / layered an additional round, but will recieve atleast one go each before highlighting. The metal has only based and then washed once. As I said earlier, they're about 50% done:)

I almost bought the death guard conversion kit, buuut I couldn't really motivate it becuse I think these guys are cool aswell. I did however buy the kit for terminators, aswell as the death guard dread:)

i can see two mould lines on the top guy....

but otherwise they look really cool

Thanks^^ Yeah, I was a bit hasty with these guys so I missed a few here and there. The truth be told I don't really care;D Buut as to not aggrivate anyone further I will be more thorough with the rest of the army. Also now I know wich lines I missed, and therefor where to look extra;D

Really cool looking guys. I have a box of them for quite long so I think I'm gonna paint one very soon.

Theyäre a blast to paint:) I've added another layer of paint and a wash on those guys, not really worth posting a pic though. I've spent most of the evening glueing and all that stuff. Behold my Raptors!

Some really aweinspiring conversion made using a pin vice and basing grit:p

I based one guy because I wanted you to see that the basing grit boils wont look like complete shit once they've got some paint slapped on them.

And I made myself a Chaos Lord from various bitz. Some poor attempts at sculpting aswell. It was mostly for fun, took about 20 min, but was still a learning experience:)

They really have HUUUUUUUGHE Engines... Do they have to compensate something? *huge smile*

greetings, Taggi

Yes, they're compensating for the shitty paint job they'll recieve;D I imagine that not all of their limbs function as they used to, which also could be a reason to compensate;D

I overlooked your post earlier:) My apologies! Thank you:) I'm sure you'll change your mind once you've seen the "conversions" I made;D
