Patching

Hi, I have a question. Sometimes there are flaws in the metal of the minis. What would you do to patch it up? Any good suggestions? I\'ve seen flaws so big they have totally ruined my paintjob...

And by the way, where do you get the green stuff? Do they sell it at GW, cause I\'ve never seen it????

Depends what the particular areas are and what needs patching.. Generally Greenstuff is the popular way to go but there are tonsof different products out there.I\'ve been using vallejo plastic putty for a lot of smaller fix ups as it\'s easy to get a smooth finish with.
Any chance of pics of what you are patching up???

GW do sell Greenstuff if there is none in stores near you you can order it or do a search on ebay and pick some up there at half the price....

Hi thanks! I\'ll take a closer look at GW the next time I go by there. And yes, there is one in town:). I\'m not patching up anything right now, but I have of pic of one I probably should have patched up... If that helps? See upper right pic, on her dress.

I use Magic Sculpt for fixing most defects on minis. It\'s cheaper than green stuff and you can water it down to make a runny paste to smear on pitted surfaces. It\'s also andable when set so you can smooth it out very nicely with a bit of fine grit wet and dry paper.

You can do the same thing with milliput.

For rough metal, I usually file and sand it down until it\'s not. I also use a Dremel buffer tool to try and get a smooth finish overall. I use a brush primer, and will do extra coats to smooth out an area I might have missed in the prep stage. Thicker brush primer can also be used to fill in small pits, likewise you can put in a drop of superglue and then sand/file it down level after about 10 minutes or so.

You can order greenstuff from the Cool Mini shop or most other online miniature suppliers. I thought GW did sell it, though at a higher per unit cost. If you have a local store that sells Reaper minis, they also sell small strips of GS. Milliput and Magic Sculpt you\'re more likely to find at a hobby store like Hobby Town.

For really big flaws I use a small engravers chisel then small diamond files. Sometimes, like on yours where the flaw is running in the same direction of the folds of the dress you can actually \'sculpt\' the flaw into another fold in the dress.

Well look for a model building shop in Oslo that deals with military models like airplanes and Tanks. They should carry Milliput which is a epoxy based putty and maybe even some of the other puttys described.

Alright, came back home with something called DAS. I haven\'t had a chanse to try it yet, but does anyone have any experience with it? I thought at least I\'d be able to use it for the bases if nothing else lol

Ok, thanks:) I will just have to see what I can manage then.

By the way, I\'ve noticed that many of you have your rating in your signatures. I know I\'ve seen mine somewhere, but where????

I actually think that the rating thingy is an IMG link. and you haven\'t got one if you haven\'t uploaded at least 5 pics or more.

about the patching... I usually fill the scratches with paint and remove the wet paint on the former paint. if you don\'t remove it it gets extra high at the lines and it soesn\'t make a difference from before. that is my tip ^^
