Painting when disabled

I am not now and will never be a master painter.

I do however have a condition known as Parkinsons, and will forever have it.

I know many people wants to paint like Silphid, Victoria etc etc and ofc there should always be a goal to be better than you are now.

But.

I also want to add to thoose who don`t paint like God`s that there is no shame in painting at a medium level.

I will most likely never paint above a 5-6 level by votes inn here, but to me that is a victory considering what i have going for me.

What i am wanting to say is.

Never be ashamed of your work, because at the end of it, you did the best you could do with what you have.
And if you find yourself to be in a situation that is like mine and you have a condition making painting harder then you should be just that much more proud of your work.

This is my first mini in 2 years here on cmon and for me this is as good as it gets.

and no matter what the rating will say in the end, i am proud of my work..

you should be to

Well, it\'s got shading, highlight, a nice base, neatly painted, some bits of freehand with the flames, so it\'s a grand job. I would say an above average table top standard. I think the flames need to go that little brighter and the black could do with a little work. it is a tricky one to get right.

My second point is thankyou for posting this. There are a number of people with health issues who could get some inspiration from this.

:p not only I\'m disabled ( more like muscly challenged).....but at my age my eyesight is bad......but I have scored in the 7 t0 8 range, just takes me longer to get the job done

also this is just me,, but I dislike the words disabled or handicapped ...in the US it\'s sometimes thought of as being less or lacking to the rest of the population, we need a better “word”, more positive.:D

You got some pointers for me to fix the black? everything helps:beer:

I paint my thumb.
Mini painting with parkinsons.. I admire your will power. :wow:
Maybe striving to control your movements with such accuracy is helping fight/slow-down the condition.

Granddad!
you\'ve done a grand job, there are worse paint jobs out there believe me

some better lighting, would help with your pics
if you can stretch to it a light tent makes a huge difference, they aren\'t that expensive, I got mine from Ebay,

with the black you could try a grey line along the top edges, using the side of your brush, once you\'ve loaded it with paint, touch it on some paper towel briefly before applying to your mini
blue can work as a highlight on black too, that\'s what they do in most comics

You painted that with Parkinson\'s? Well I\'m impressed. I\'d probably give it a 6-6.5, partly because the photo is quite dark. You can get away without a light tent, a desk lamp with a GE Reveal daylight bulb is how I take photos and mine are pretty bright, though not perfect.

And dude... painters like Silphid make us ALL want to pull out our hair.

Well done! I voted as well. There are a lot of physically challenged people painting and being friends with some I know what will power it takes. I admire you!

I like the work you have done there

Just because you have a dx parkinsons does not entirely mean you cannot accomplish anything you put your mind through. I work with individuals with your same dx every day and many of them through use of medications can delay the progression of their dx.

Have you ever thought of using wrist weights when painting to control the tremors?

Never say never. My Father has Parkinsons as well, and according to his doctor they \"should\" have a cure, or at least something to halt the progression on market in the next five to seven years.
As for the paint job, heck it looks better then my stuff, and the only thing that I have to work against is bad eyes.

@seraphius: I don\'t care whether you have Parkinsons, Muscular Dystrophy, Asperger\'s Syndrome, Glaucoma or Myalgic Encephalopathy. You are a person, not a disease.

As mick said, a fine highlight along the edge can work. A blue-grey is my preferred choice for a cool tone but black can have any colour in it.

I recently had a go at a technique that was in a thread I posted about painting different blacks. I believe it was Averlon that mentioned the recipe that Ritual uses. basically it\'s paint the black area in a very dark brown (I used GW chaos black + RMS walnut brown) and then gradually add vallejo flat flesh to the mix. Of course that\'s to give a gradual transition but you could use the dark brown+flat flesh mix as an edge highlight which will give a different tone to the blue-grey.

firstly, i know what a terrible disease parkinsons is, my grandfather has it bad. i think that the very fact that your talking about it not leting it stop you, is something truly to be admrired. next, though you have the disease it is not and never will be who you are, that is up to you. as for the paintjob, its farbetter than anything i can pull off, good idea for the base. youv already bested your 5-6 expectations:)

I can\'t see the problem... a 7.0? That\'s darn nice. I dunno if you have parkinson on both hands? But maybe you could try painting with your other hand?

I don\'t think it works that way. Also, most people are profoundly NOT ambidextrous. I can barely pick my nose with my non-dominant hand.
