Painting Tartan

Hey guys,

I just recently got hold of a Privateer Press Trollblood Warpack and those guys are digging tartan.

Now I have a good idea how to paint tartan on a reasonably flat surface but if its a winding cloak with a lot of crevices it seems quiet a bit more difficult.

For exaple look at this little guy here in the middle.

Hmm.. wired I can see the pic even on different computers.

Just have a look at the Hordes Webpage under Trollblood its the Trollblood Warpack Pic with the four Miniatures.

And about your links I have found 2 of them myself but the first one was actually real good.
But like I sayed they allwas show it on pretty even surfaces but the mini I want to paint has a toga/cloak thats realy windy so I need some advice how to paint the tartan on it so it actually looks like a tartan as well.

If you\'re mostly having trouble with how the pattern goes over the surface you just have to try to visualise it flowing into and out of creases and folds.

It might help to get some reference photos or better yet, a piece of plaid or checked fabric and study how the pattern changes when you scrunch it up, make folds etc. etc.

It can be hard to lay out the first stages of the pattern on a mini\'s surface with a brush so try applying some light guidelines with a graphite or normal pencil, it often helps.

I got this on a school trip to Edinburgh castle when i was 8 or 9 therabouts.

This is the work of a 9 year old! (me lol forgive the gloss varnish)

Practice on spare minis mate, its obviously fairly easy

thanks for your help guys I will try to get my hand on some kind of tartan cloth or similar and try to work it out.

The tip with the guidlines was good I didnt think about that.

And I think as well that the miniature is pretty nicely painted for somebody who is just eight or nine years old.

Thanks again I will keep you updated about my progress.
