Painting stubble on black skin

Grey Area

New member
I\'ve got a guard sergeant that I want to try painting some stubble on, but I\'ve no idea how to go about doing this. I\'ve seen the very short article about painting stubble on white skin; glaze with codex grey, shade with black, highlight with white (no real surprises there!). However, I\'m not sure which colours would work on black skin. I\'ve used scorched brown as the base colour.

Any suggestions? I guess grey may work, and just make him look old.

I would have said black stubble, with a touch of grey for highlights.
I cannot think of any reference pics (minis) you could look at at the moment.

If this were a larger piece (Maybe 54mm and above), I would have said try doing it the usual way, but with more layers on the surrounding skin.

(So say, working up from scorched all the way up to maybe snakebite on some of the raised areas)

I don\'t know though - I might try this myself...
