Painting smurfs

After a long break from gaming, I have returned to the new (well to me) darker blue and gold colour scheme for the Ultramarines. not having to paint yellow trim is going to be a god send, but I'm stuck as to what colour to use for my marines.

I'm only wanting to paint them for gaming so don't need complicated recepies, just wondering whats the common way of painting them these days.

I've seen some tutorials using 50/50 regal/ultra blue, but then the AoBR painting guide uses Mordian Blue. Has anyone used the Mordian blue method, as that looks pretty close to the 50/50 mix and would save me mixing paint.

I'm also a bit confused as to why the GW tutorials use 50/50 mix on the marines, yet they use straight ultra blue on the vehicles. I have an old school landspeeder and some bikes to paint and dont know which way to go with them.

any advice is appreciated :)

The method with Mordian Blue is nice. I've only painted two ultramarines and I had used Regal Blue+Ultramarine Blue 50/50 and it gives a good result.

Have you tried using the GW washes over Ultramarine blue. I haven't personally but I have seen them used to good effect for basic gaming minis. A very quick and easy way of adding shading with the stroke of your brush.
