Painting on Resin

Hi all,

recently I\'ve just started on one of the excellent Foregeworld Greynight Dreadnoughts.

Having never painted on Resin before, I thought i start asi would on plastic or metal mini\'s. - spray undercoat, base coat and wash.

however, as i was going along i noticed that the paint would not adhere to the Resin where the undercoat has not been applied. The paint kept slipping off.

What can i do to combat this Immiscibility?

Please help!

Thanks
Pestie

first, wash the model with a degreacing agent. surgical spirits will do.
this is far better than soap and warm water.

second, give it a light coat of spray varnish. the paint will now stick to the resin with ease.

First wash with soap and water.... scrub with toothbrush.

Let it dry.

(this is after you have removed flash, etc).

Then prime it with automative (car) primer. Forgeworld suggests this since car primer seals the resin in a smooth layer, while hobby primer gets absorbed by it more.

Try that :)

I also have the FW GK mark IV dread...it rocks :)

Kudos to Pestie for using the word Immiscibility. At my workplace, using a 6 syllable word typically results in someone handing you a quarter.

Might be needed for Forgeworld\'s stuff, but not Ilyad\'s, for instance.

If you\'ve already undercoated and its flaking use a cotton Bud (swab) and acetone to remove from the flaky areas..don\'t be too forceful but enough to lift any slightly loose pieces..
After leaving to dry lightly spray with a clear varnish let this dry and undercoat again with spray..should help..

As a note on some larger resin pieces if the resin hasn\'t cured properly then liquidy resin will leak out like sweat lifting th paint from underneath..If this happens place in an oven on low heat ..just be careful of any fine parts..

As for cleaning resin any product that is advertised as cut\'s through grease works well.
