Painting metallic gold

I know this is such a rookie question, but I\'ve never really ever had to do it. I was wondering if I\'m using citadel color, what colors I should use for elven armor and what colors should I add for layering. Thanks for the help.

ELVEN GOLD

When I painted my tyrion I used a black undercoat. I base coated the gold with tin bitz, then leaving tin bitz just in the recesses I painted on a mix of beaten copper and shining gold, something like a 2-1 or 3-1 ratio of beaten copper to shining gold. I then highlighted all the edges with just shining gold. Then, on the very tips where light would reflect off the brightest I used burnished gold quite sparingly. You could even mix in a touch of silver with the burnished gold if you wanted. Hope this helps. Good luck. :)

Other techniques

The above technique works well. The ‘Eavy Metal team uses a very similar technique. If you’d like a more rich gold tone, try washing it with thinned-down Chestnut Ink. If you’d like a lighter tone, try mixing shining gold with Mithril Silver for successive highlight stages. For an antiqued look, undercoat with black, then paint the area to be painted gold Leprous Brown, and trace over this with shining gold, and wash with thinned-down Chestnut Ink.

Undercoat dark brown, base coat of shining gold (I think!), brown ink wash, highlight up again using shining gold and then highlight up to burnished gold (might have my golds the wrong way round though!). Gives a very rich gold colour which is quite nice.

black undercoat
scab red and then shining gold

I generally use two coats of slightly thinned down burnished gold over a black undercoat to get a nice flat colour, then wash that with a mix mostly chestnut ink with a small ammount of black ink added (two watered down coats work a lot better than one thick one). Highlight this with a mix of burnished gold and mithril silver using either drybrushing or (genarally preferably) painting it on.
