Painting Light Blues...Help!

Hi guys, i\'m needing to paint a light blue colour scheme, i only have GW paints. I don\'t want to use pure Ice Blue as i think that\'s too bright....any ideas?

Ice Blue is certainly very bright - that\'s the sort of colour you\'ll get if you add pure white to most of GW\'s darker blues.

Try adding light grey, bone or flesh to your blues to lighten them without making them too shocking.

Just how bright are you aiming for...?
I\'m assuming somewhere past Ultramarine blue...? I\'d just keep adding a lighter blue to your basic blue coat until you reach a level you\'re aiming for.

But as SM mentioned, you could try different colours.

ok il give it a try, its to go with a pink colour for a Slaanesh army, so i don\'t want the blue too bright so it clashes with the pink armour plates.....but il try what you guys have suggested. Thanks :drunk::beer:

One way of toning down a color is to add just the smallest hint of it\'s opposite. This greys the color but, if you use the same tone, doesn\'t darken it. So for blue mix it with a brush you dabbed into orange and brushed almost clean (like you would when dry brushing). This will add a touch of the orange (becareful that the orange is as light as the blue) without being too much. You can always do it again if the blue is still too bright. go slow untill you have the color you want.

If it\'s for Slaanesh stuff, I\'d recommend using Pale Flesh to lighten your blue - it\'ll give the slightest hint of pink - especially if you use it pure as a very final highlight in places.

I used it on a blue troll to make the skin look a little softer and fleshier. Worked pretty well.

If you want a ready-mix solution for doing batches, try VMC Pastel Blue - much softer than Ice Blue...

thanks Munkie! i SERIOUSLY need 2 get my hands on that Vallejo stuff - all i have is the GW paints at the mo. Il try adding Elf Flesh to Ultramarines Blue, see where that gets me. Failing that il need 2 find a website that sells the Vallejo stuff that can send it to my address.:cussing:
