Painting Khemri Skeletons

This is my first post ever to this forum, so please be kind! :)

I plan on painting some Khemri skeletons up soon, and I want to go for a real clean, sun bleached look to them (After all, they were rotting in the sun for a whiles).

I\'ve seen many different ways to achieve a more dirty look to skeletons, but how would you achieve this look? What paints, techniques, etc would you use? And what color primer, black or white?

Thanks in advance for any help.

Hrm, very clean, almost polished looking bone isn\'t usually something that can be done easily en masse. In my personal experience, I think that a progression from Snakebite Leather to Bronzed Flesh to Bleached Bone makes for great, clean looking bone. But it\'s about 5-6 steps depending on how much time you have to spend. Not a very good technique for an entire army of skeletons.

At any rate, white primer would be my top pick. It\'s a lot harder to build back up to near white after a black undercoat. Small details is tolerable, but for the look you want for the entire army it\'s just too much work I\'d think.

Sun Bleaching of bone

Go as white as possible. If you really want to make them look sun bleached, look at the mini and figure out how you think the body was laying on the ground. Everything that was shaded will have a darker, more classic yellowish bone look, while the parts that were exposed will be white. The other thing about sunbleached bone is that it has a grainy texture that would be very hard to reproduce.

grainy texture

I dunno, I produced a grainy texture by accident.
I used a primer spray that was nearly empty and held it too close to the minis.
If you\'re willing to experiment....

If you want grainy primer then all you have to do is stir up some dust in the room before you spray. If you\'re lucky, the dust will clump up with paint and stick to the model. I\'ve never done it intentionally, but it has happened a couple times with consistent results.:)

For really grainy white

... Open up a jar of Polly S White ONCE. Put the lid back on and put it away. By the next day it should be ready to go. It will be far too grainy to use for anything but your skeleton project.
This works with Ral Partha White too . . . sadly . . . (For those of you not paying close attention the above was a JOKE - but just barely)
