Painting hides?

Its been a long time I visited I know, but I\'m still modelling dont worry!

I\'m about to make some Kroot tents that are on the GW online site, does any one have any tips for painting leather like hides? I\'m not too keen on the colour they used.

I suppose it begs the question: hides of what?

I have a deerskin that is remarkably lighter than the deer... almost bleached bone. People I have spoken to who hang out with the \"buckskin\" gang say that the hide gets quite dark in the wear areas, in contrast to what movie costumes seem to look like.

I used the templates from the GW site to make a kroot tent. I think a colour that is similar to GWs Graveyard earth is what I\'m after, but what is the best technique for painitng them like hides?

I would say some sort of drybrush/wash technique... You want the gradtions of colour to be quite smooth, but you also want the surface to look textured like leather...

Can\'t really say any better than that as I\'ve not had much experience of painting large areas of leather (Other than holsters/scabbards etc)
