I just started getting back into painting, and I was no good hand at it when I was doing it before,
I picked up some stuff and started trying to paint again,
I had no real Idea on what colors to paint,
and if anyone has any good ideas, I am more then willing to listen,
I uploaded pics of my tries on photobucket
Hope this works,

I tried painting lit eyes on a few ripper swarms, and one unlit, and I tried doing flesh on a Space Marine Commander.
Any advice would be great.
Thanks

Hi, welcome to CMON. This other thread might be some help on the basics of where and how to highlight:

Don\'t forget to check out the articles, lots of useful tips already there in step-by-step format.

Hi & welcome\'
Your drybrushing can also be used as a basic guide for your highlights, all you need to do is alter the technique slightly. Rather than just brushing all over the mini in random directions, brush in one direction only. If we are assuming the light is directly above the mini, brush from top to bottom, removing the brush from the mini at the bottom of the stroke. If you only do a light coat you can then use this as a guide for where to paint on the highlights.
You could also use a wash over an already drybrushed mini, like the ones in pic#6, you could then use that as a guide for the rest of them

BUGSSSS BUGGSSSSSSSSSSSSS OMG I LOVE YOU! *BIG HUG* :D:bouncy: i thought i was the only one!!! *whipes away the tears*

they look good so far!!!

also remember bugs are a bit different in that the armour you dont really highlight unless your not doing the \"chitin\" look. with bugs you want to higlight the skin then chitin in armour wich usualy means you highlight on the armour will be on the raised surfaces on the bottom as aposed to the cracks at the top so its kind of reversed... heres a pic of one of my warriors (currently painting an army)

its hard to tell but if you look at the \"skin\" the surfaces ontop i highlighted while the surfaces on the \"underside\" i left dark then for the armour i did the \"chittin\" effect (or atleast tried  ) also carefull of mould lines and roughness especialy on the bugs as they are life forms and wouldnt really have peice protruding from them altho i havnt noticed enything really with your and i do know.... its easy to miss that especialy with large broods! also if you have MSN and want to add me feel free to send me a PM and il\'l give you my addy and htat way you can also ask for help when ever you need it and im on (wich is most of the time... can you say nerd? lol)

hopefully this will help!

Hey thanks for the help,
I like the way your bugs look,
and it makes me once again think my scheme is a bit plain,
Any sugeestions on different color schemes,
I am going to be going for a mostly ripper army,
(I have about 50 bases right now) and Carnifexes, with some hive mind backup
with maybe a little bit of spine guants,
Not that it might make alot of difference,
But...
Had a extra Guant to try a different paint scheme any advice or comments would be great

CROP YOUR PICTURES!!!

Wow!! That thing was humungous!

I think your red/green colour scheme will stand out on a table, but beware of getting the \'xmas\' look :D

Got a few better shots that I cropped into one,
Think they might allow for a better idea of what it looks like

Drat did it again *Fixed**Again

not looking too bad, still a tad big, if you keep the width between 400-600 pixels, depending on what you are trying to show, you should be ok

Well, as to the paint one side one scheme, thats what I am going to do the guant shown, you can see his left arm is black with drybrushing for the details,
and its Scure and Foul green,
#27+#25 of the Vallejo Game color range,
Nicest birthday gift I got in a long time,
