Painting flesh on a marauder

Hey, I\'m having trouble painting realistic flesh on my marauders. I basecoated Tallarn flesh onto a black undercoat, layered dwarf flesh, washed it with thinned down scorched brown and then layered a mixture of dwarf flesh/ elf flesh on top. The problem I\'ve had, on the arms in particular, is that the lines in the recesses are too dark and pronounced. Any one have any advice?

if its too dark, try adding a thin but controlled (ie dont let it pool) coat of paint the darkness you want it to be. just blend it in

You problem lies with what I\'ve underlined. You\'d have been better off mixing Dark Flesh & Dwarf Flesh to create the wash.

You can thin the paint more, and maybe add some glaze or matte medium type product to help control consistency if you want.

I\'d normally just advise mixing some of the basecoat into the wash, but Foundation paints don\'t thin down that way.

Another thing you could try is leaving less shadow showing when you hilight. My friend Nathan has improved quite a bit as a painter since he learned how to space out the hilights in a more natural way.

Well, I did the Marauders in my gallery using the method given in the Army Book. Based with Vermin Brown instead of Scorched or Dark Flesh... Works fine when layered with increasing amounts of Dwarf/Elf Flesh.

DR\'s pretty much got it.

I would definatley skip the Scorched Brown Wash.

For Flesh I use Scorched first, then I think it\'s beastial Brown (may have the name wrong), then Beastial with Dwarf Flesh, then just dwarf then finish with elf flesh.

The scorched shouldn\'t even show it\'s just a base as coating over black is hard.

Thanks alot guys. I\'ll defiantely avoid the dark wash next time. Luckily I\'ve only mutilated one marauder so hopefully it can be fixed. Cheers.
