Painting flames?

How do you paint flame to make it look real? Im asking because today I bought a Sisters of Battle Cannoness and she\'s come with a backpack that has a fire on top.

Ive heard quite a few suggestions on how to paint flame but has anyone had any success painting flames?

Im tempted to go for a orange basecoat and highlight up with yellow finishing with a bit of black.

But you all seem to be better at this painting lark that i am! :) So i was wondering what you all think...

Try starting out with a light yellow basecoat, followed by yellow, then orange and after that blend to black, so from like to dark, like Orchid said.

This is a pretty neat flame, by Victoria Lamb, the goddess of mini painting IMO.

Sheesh, how many times do I gotta sing the same song:

If you want your flames to really glow,
then here\'s something you must know:
paint the inside bright and the outside dull,
study lights and you\'re painting beautiful...

:p
