Painting chainmail

I have done this....
I did this on a barbarian miniature that had some chainmail on an arm. Normally, the easiest way to do chainmail is:
Prime.
Paint thin coat of black. Wash black. Drybrush boltgun metal. Lighter drybrush silver
Highlights however supposed to be on silver (if anyone could tell me, do you hilight with white? let me know)
Anyways, all I did was after priming white, I painted flesh. Then did a darker flesh wash. and then drybrush with metallics.
The mini itself isn\'t done and I hate it. I did the chainmail portion and left for a friend to complete, but he hasn\'t yet.
hehe
For a basic effect, it\'s not that hard to do.
Maybe I am missing something in my technique?
Any better painters please comment?

I do chainmail a different way. It comes in very handy for Bretonnian models. I never ever drybrush my chainmail.
1. Chaos black basecoat on all the chainmail bits.
2. Using the side of the brush, lightly brush over it with Boltgun Metal.
3. Apply a wash of watered down Black Ink.
4. Using the side of the brush again, go over it again in Blotgun Metal, leaving some bits darker for shading.
5.Using the side of the brush again, lightly brush over the the bits that need highlighting in Chainmail.
Here, i never use the drybrushing technique and i produces a really nice effect. Check out my picture of the Bretonnian Musician on my profile to see how well it works.
