Painting Black Armor

I apologize if this is anywhere else in the forums, but what methods are folks using to get good looking black armor? I just started a ravenwing army and feel that my proofs are coming out way too grey. Simple edge highlights look too jarring as well. Help!
Thanks in advance

Thanks folks! I tried a new base coat tonight as well. Mixed reaper master Adamantium black 1:3 with GW black and then water, gave the armor a very different base coat of black. I\'m going to try the blues and wolves grey tomorrow. Thanks again!

My advice, would be, paint in black. Highlight, with something of a black\\grey\\bleached bone mix. Then really really highlight the edges or everything pointy or sharp, or whatever with grey\\bleached bone (prolly more bleached than grey). THEN
glaze down with red and black, or black and green or red and purple, or ANY black ink + a color. This should dull your highlights down out of the grey zone, just make sure you re-highlight the tippy top sharp parts. Very cool

I\'ve found a couple of images which might help :

BlackArmour.jpg

This one shows Black armour under a Blue sky, which reflects the sky a bit more accurately than SENMM we somewhat over emphasise.

Adhemar.jpg

This shows what Black Iron Armour can look like. (It\'s from the movie A Knights Tale)
Hope that this can help a bit.

Just remember that you can\'t shade black and that you need to keep your highlighting minimal (but still contrasty!) to keep the surface looking black.

It\'s quite an easy colour to paint as it rewards less work - white is much more laborious!

Again, many thanks. I\'m going to play around with it tonight, I\'ll try to post a pic under this topic if I get a chance to get some feedback.
