Painting an auspex/scanner?

Um, hey. Me again. I\'m really bothering this forum with questions recently.

Anyway, just wondering if anyone has any pictures/advice on painting the screen of an auspex/scanner?

It\'s too small for an effective grid to give it texture, and little blobs look like exactly that - blobs. All i really need is inspiration to make it look interesting.

Thanks...

That\'s what they\'re here for :)

Given the size I\'d say just paint it to look like it\'s glowing - light centre, darker edges, maybe some glow cast onto the rim or nearby surfaces.

I\'m back.

Must remember to experiment before posting.
It turns out that, whilst grids and blobs are quite lame, together they work rather well.

I\'m happy to accommodate what you think might work better, but at the moment what it is definitely lacking, to better match the buttons and eyes, is shine. Specular. However, i\'m not very experienced in all this, and don\'t know how to apply the shine on something so large and flat. I\'m pretty sure it\'ll have to be a line, near an edge, but where?

Also, don\'t worry, a little uplighting will be added in later, and i think the blobs need to be slightly brighter.

If you are able to paint thin enough, a brighter green line through middle of each of the green lines in your grid would bring it to life

I\'d suggest using a razor\'s edge to paint those thinner lines, if you can manage it.

The pointy end of an exacto knife ought to be thin enough, eh?

That looks pretty good to me. And (no cracks please!) the knobs look excellent.

I upped the brightness of the blobs, and added a line of highlight to make the screen look a little more \'glowy\'. Tell me if you don\'t think it\'s working, or if there are ways to improve it. I\'m not adding the final specular until all the rest is completely finished.

Thin inner lines you say? That\'s such an obvious thing to do! Why didn\'t i think of it sooner!? Thanks mick. Reckon i can paint them freehand though.
Crazy. Again i say, a week ago, even the current lines would have been beyond me...

Btw, ignore that horrible blob of white on the bottom-right button. Tried to make it a more realistic highlight for a triangular button, and failed first time. It\'s been corrected now.

(Oh, and i\'m loving painting gem-effect now i\'ve got the hang of it. Those buttons are possibly my favourite, just because they look good all next to each other)

you are most welcome, glad you are enjoying yourself. Gems can be a bit tricky but when you get \'em right most satisfying
Keep up the good work
