Anyone have experience with automatic paint shakers? I\'m getting really tired of shaking vallejo\'s :p

I saw one on ebay called the \"badger\" or something? Anyone have this or have any experience with others?

Thanks!

I used to shake mine too, but the ton of shaking Vallejo\'s need isn\'t really productive to do it by hand if you have arthritis. I have no experiance with the Badger, but the robart paint shakers work very very nicely and I can vouch for Vallejo\'s, Reapers and most of the current mini paint line bottles fitting it. http://www.robart.com under the hobby tools if you want to eyeball that one.

I bought the Robart one from Micromark in early January. It died a mysterious death this last Friday.:flame:

Of course that puts it past the 30day satisfaction guarantee. So I either gotta figure out how to fix it or buy another.
Why?
Because in less than two months I became utterly spoiled by the damned thing.

Yeah they\'re great. Put some glass beads or other inert object as an agitator in your bottles and give it a quick preliminary arm shake and then put in the shaker. Works like charm for resurrecting almost dead paints too.

But pray for one that won\'t bust on you right away either. Damn my luck.

:innocent:

Yeah I only use my hand to shake paints as well. I just put an agitator in the bottle, seems to work just fine.

But just for giggles how much does one of these cost and how much room do they take up?

The two on Robart are either $29.95 or $37.95. The $30 one is battery operated, while the $38 one is AC-powered.

I don\'t see an $8 advantage over being able to take up yet another valuable power strip plug, depending on what sort of batteries it takes and how often it eats them up. If it takes AAs, I\'ll be buying one since I have piles of rechargeables between my cordless mouse and digital camera. If it\'s something like a 9V, I\'m not so sure...if it lasts for 3 months on a single battery, OK, but not once a week or whatever.

Seems like a worthy investment to me!

As for the room it takes up, I have to guess as I\'m not at home to see mine, but I want to say it\'s a box about 8 inches square, the unit being a couple inches tall with a bit more height where you strap the bottle in:

Wife got me one for my last birthday. It\'s great. I can\'t praise it enough because I paint infrequently and my paints tend to separate badly between uses.
My wife likes it too because I put one of her nail polish bottles on it that she decided was too dry to use, and in under a minute it was like new.

Finn\'s review was of the battery powered one and he had some problems with it at first. It burns through batteries fast. I have the corded one and I recommend putting it on carpet because if your paint is even slightly off balance the box will move happily along any smooth surface (and off your desk) because it\'s so light weight.

It will not shake shaving cream, dullcoat or full-size aerosol cans.
It says \"not for continuous use\" but doesn\'t say how long you can use it, and I\'ve left it running for more than 5 minutes without a problem. (still did not save the old armory metallic paints - once the particles begin to corrode the paint is a loss, not even acetone will help)

Can\'t measure it right now either, but I\'d say lahatiel is guessing slightly high. It\'s about the same size as the postal scale you get if you sign up for stamps.com

i use my hands to shake paint also. but when they get tired i use my little battery powered jewerly cleaner.

or my old pager when i only have one battery left. just drop the bottle into a frito-lay jalapeno cheese dip can with the pager and let it go to town.

also i sometimes used my washing machine. it tends to like to walk around. so i set my paints in a shoebox and put it on top to keep them from sepeating over time of non-use.

I got home, checked it out, and found I was a tad bit high in my estimate, but not too much. The base is 6.75\" square rather than 8, though it is 2\" tall. I, too, got the AC model and no, I wouldn\'t ever want to give it up again.

Thanks for the info guys, I may have to get one of these. The price is a lot better than I would of thought.

A few more questions for ya\'ll. 1st off is it loud? And does it help with stuck lids, or do I still have to bang them on the edge of the table? :D

Well, you couldn\'t sleep next to it, but it\'s not too bad. I usually don\'t notice it because it\'s on for such a short period, or if I leave it longer I\'m usually walking out of the room for something.

Can\'t say about that as I don\'t have stuck lids. All of my paints are in dropper type bottles, even my GW ones.
Oh, if you are in a hurry you can shake 3 of the vallejo sized dropper bottles at once, but the effect is not as good.

Stuck lids? Sometimes hot water will loosen them. If you can get some thin leather or rubber to put over the cap it can greatly increase your grip.

@ Vincegammer, Unfortunatly I do most of my painting while the s.o. is sleeping, hence the noise isssue.

@ Shawn, I have like 2 pots that the lids are stuck on and they are poth inks. I will have to try the hot water trick. I completly forgot about doing that.
