Are you into competition quality figures? Then, yes, it is . Especially if you can get one cheap.
After I saw a few of my figures under an OTT light at Gencon some years back, I was shocked. I knew I sucked...but that bad?
So I hunted on ebay for a good deal on an OTT lite. Rather than shell out $170 Canadian I spent $42US for the same model, including the shipping, on ebay. I saved enough $$ that I also installed a 4\' long flourescent fixture above my workdesk with twin bulbs that have a similar temperature as the OTT.
The 4\' flourescent is my main light and I think the fixture was about $30 and the light bulbs about $15. It hangs from a couple of chains attached to the celing and plugs into the wall. Not beautiful decor-wise, but excellent work lighting.

I still turn on the OTT when I\'m finishing up a figure and checking to see if it needs fixing.
I also will take a model outside in the sun to have a once over too. Checking your figure out in various lights really helps.
Just my 2cents.
