Ork Scratchin his Arse

Friar

Dorks for Orks
Well here\'s the first Ork. For some reason whenever I see orks and goblins the just scream out \"I wanna be a Rasta\" so I\'m gonna be doin em all in a basic color scheme sticking to the red gold and green. Obviously green is the prevalent skin tone so clothing and details will mostly be red and yellow. I am planning on a few tan/brown skinned orcs to give a bit more variety to the mob.

Without further ado the first of my Rude Boyz and it\'s the ass scratching ork. I would like to hear any tips comments or suggestions please. I am planning on adding static grass but have been stuck in the house past couple days due to weather.

edit: the more I looked at the pic the more it seemed blurred at first I thought it was due to it bein dramatically enlarged but after a lil fidling I got it to look much closer to the real deal

the one thing I don\'t understand is why he\'s so glossy he\'s got a matte clear coat on, maybe after I do some touch ups and the static grass I\'ll do a couple more coats and see if that dulls down that shine.

I think I found a new way to review my own pieces tho lol in a enlarged pic it shows alot of \"not lookin all that great\" lol I\'m figuring on redoing the mushroom, doing some touch ups on the gun as well as retouchin some of the other metals. I musta gotten a bit carried away weathering cuz I can\'t tell where half the metal objects vanished to. also spotted some points where the ork raised away from the base and the super glue peeled the paint up bleee. lol I\'m making alot of work here

also can anyone tell me what the deal is with RMS liners are the inks paints what, this is one of the first minis I used em on they work great for washes, I\'m wonderin if they aren\'t part of the shine problem... isn\'t that a charecteristic of inks (don\'t have any so not sure) that they tend to be glossy.

testors dullcote even shines with the amounts of lighting used when take pictures to show the small details. so a bit of shine should be expexted in picture from most people that don\'t have professional photography studios. you could reduce the light with a filter. some tissue paper between your light source and the mini to cut down on the glare.

its not like its too shiny, but just that you can tell the protective coat is there.

might be a good reference point to where highlights should go on the mini where the image shows the brighter shines. then maybe you wouldn\'t tell the light shining so much as it would look like part of the mini?

Are you diffusing your lighting rig? The shines probably come from that if you\'re not.

yeah. makes you want to cry doesn\'t it!?!!

as for diffusing the lighting, try holding some baking parchment in front of the light. it acts as a cheap diffuser

nice I\'ll give the tissue/parchment a whirl, ty

@Gussy: Yeah my gs-foo is week I got what I could by slicing off the hand and angling the wrist as well as some slight trimming at the shoulder, but I\'ll see maybe I can coerce some more out of it when I do my final round of touch ups lol at worst I\'ll bugger up the arm and redo it.

Nice paint job too, i really like the muted gritty colors. The shine is a bit much though.

Did some touching up on the highlights mainly top of his shoulders and the highlights on his muscles did a mini touch up of the shadows on his arms messed around with the base a bit, brightened his eyes, and put about 4 coats of flat sealer on him as well as used diffused lighting (tissue paper over the light)

Edit: lol well dammit he looks alot better in real life. lol

Personally I would change the mushroom colour, as it looks too close to the rest of the palette.

You are still shiny too, try putting some baking parchment or tracing paper over your light to diffuse it

lol that last set o pics was with tracing paper over the light, I\'m hoping for a warm enough day and I can use my spray sealer since the brush on I got just isn\'t doing jack about the shine. Yeah I didn\'t like the first shroom color so tried the bright purple an green but thats not great either thinkin about scratchin the polka dot goofy shroom and doin one based off a real one, there are some quite lovely crimson mushrooms so I\'ll probally try that, and hopefully this week my local train store gets in the static grass I asked for so I can finish the base up, lol and then hopefully it\'ll look better all around. I\'ve kinda shelved him till I can actually finish him got a lil burned out on mr. ass-in-hand here :)

What I really don\'t understand is why he\'s so shiny all I have a RMS paints and a couple GW metalics and this is the only mini I\'ve had this shine issue with, I\'m puzzled ???
