Ordo Sep's WIP Log

Hello —

Decided to finally post a WIP log here; the primary purpose of this is to keep a log of my moving away from the early 90s EM style to a more realistic, more subtle styles.

I thought I'd start this with something fun: The wife said she was interested in painting, so we went to our FLGS, and she picked out the mini that we'd be painting. She picked Shoatima, by Reaper, although we have name them Otto and Oscar. Here's where we are, up until now.

The first step was was to put down the browns for the fur, and a leather white for the chest fur. Following the basic colors, a thinned wash of Devlan Mud and Gryphonne Sepia were added, and to the chest fur, a thinned wash of Badab Black and RMS Cyan Blue. All colors are RMS, unless otherwise stated.

Here's mine:

And the wife's:

Following this, a light drybrush was applied. Leather White was used to highlight the colors on the fur, and a very light grey to highlight the chest fur. Again, with mine first, and then the wife's.

We're currently applying the colors to the bags, etc., and I will post those when we've finished.

Those Dystopian Wars minis are seriously growing on me.

They're some of the better, crisper resin sculpts that I have ever seen. And for the price of 1000 pts of 40k, you can get two full factions from DW.

Check out the others ones (I like the battleship) in my gallery, and thanks for the comments!

Hey all,

A while back, I got some of the Vallejo Sticky Textures, and while there are quite a few different selections, I purchased the ones with the greatest contrast:

These are like a wet paste, very granular in nature, that are extremely adhesive. I was not feeling like doing the usual basing procedure for a dwarf that I am painting for my friend's Mordheim band (Hi, Mat!), so I thought I'd put some of this on. I'd generally never take a mini this close up (it's an unrealistic size), but I wanted everyone to get the idea of the texture, which, conversely, is hard-to-gauge if you're not close-up on it.

One of the best uses for these are weathering; you can add pigments to them, add paint to them, etc., so that if you wanted to put some dried, stuck-on mud on a vehicle, this would be an easy go-to, and you could augment the color and consistency by adding different pigments, maybe a brownish red paint, matte medium, etc., to the mix.

The Black Lava one is a lot like a airplane tarmac or black-top; it reminds me of an outdoor blacktop basketball court. These are perfect for sci-fi city-scapes, and I plan on using these a lot with my newly-arrived Sedition Wars minis.

Hope this is something you might find interesting and check out.

That's some cool stuff. Where'd you find it? Off of their website?

Yessir. It's on the Vallejo Website.

On an unrelated note, here are some of the Vallejo Pigments I picked up; I used some Mig Pigments as well, and will likely test different sides of the Land Raider for different mixtures. This is, after all, mainly for testing!
