Hi all,

I am new here at this forum, but looked at it for some time now. I really like all the great work I've seen here and decided to give it also a try.

At this moment I am working on a Ork Stompa. It's almost finished and hope to make some photo's very soon.

This thread is also a try to post some pictures. I've included some pictures of my Stompa at the very first start.

Hope to place new ones very soon.

Thanks for the reply's... I have indeed converted many details. I am intended to place some more pictures tomorrow.
It's still not finished, but it's almost done.

I wanted to give my Stompa a well worn and rusty look and I think that it turned out really rusted and not been taken care off.

More tomorrow!!!

Best regards,

Eelco

Hi all,

As promised some new photo's from my Stompa at this moment. Some things needs to be done, but not to much anymore.

Will try to tell you what I have converted:
- I cut out the Gretchins who were cast inside the Stompa, and replaced them by some single ones.
- I made an extra fireport with a big gun.
- I made the hatch of the can, above the shoulder, open and placed a Ork Boy inside.
- I made a cockpit with a driver in the front.
- I replaced the rockets with a flying bomb from Forge World.

I airbrushed the base in acrylics and after that a lot of washes, filters and fadings with oils, enamels and pigments.

Here the photo's (taken a little bit fast out of the hand). I already told you it's a little bit rusty:

Hope you like it. I also hope to finish the Sompa in about a week (what I already say for some months :suspicious:)

pretty awesome! i really like the feel of it! it's definitely rusty allright, but the rust would chip of at joints and where it oftenmost makes contact, would it not? i think it would look even better if you had some chipps and dints as well as making a rather clearer metal edge. perhaps a simple drybrush on select edges? also, i'd like to see more depth in the skin of you'r creatures.
But when the complaining is done, i really enjoy your conversions! very nice touches, and yet you do not go overboard with them. and the damage is great, those oil-stains and rust drips are very nice!

please shoot me for being wrong... it is all opinion based, of course.

Yum, that look juicy. :good:

Though I'd echo Lyuun's point about preferring a bit more grey metal visible. On the edges where the rust could have been scraped off, and around moving parts where equally it could have been forcibly flaked away. Not just to reinforce the rust, but for some contrast.

Further to contrast, would be nice to see some of the various and many armour plates show evidence of a previous paint job. One plate having a few remaining chips of a faded yellow, another revealing it was once red before the paint got scraped away and turned to rust, etc.

Very juicy though. :claply:

Hi all,

Thanks again for the respons and advices. As said before, the Stompa is not finished yet.
To get more conrast I will indeed more metalize the edges and some of the plates. I think I will use a graphitepencil for that.

My goal was to obtain a extremely rusty Stompa, made out of parts from the scrapyard and some parts from destroyed enemy vehicles.
I did paint some plates like they were from destroyed enemy vehicles. It was only not to obvious in the pictures.
Also the rusty plates are all a different color.

I just made some new photo's at daylight (well light, it's a cloudy day but better than yesterdayevening). I hope they give a better expression:

You have done an outstanding job weathering some areas, but I'd have to echo what has been posted above regarding adding depth to your weathering and more color to the build. At present, the Stompa looks a little unfinished & static to my eye.

Rust is extremely fragile and any amount of wear is going to show pretty quickly. Even the tremendous shaking that would occur while the Stompa is walking would cause plates to shift & possibly rub together, revealing the metal underneath. Joints, hinges, flat spaces where there would be foot traffic, areas around openings, service areas around the main weapons, battle damage, fasteners, and especially the feet would all show wear.

A bit more work would really pull what you have already done together.;)

Nice rust effects. I like the pitted look.
One thing, drill out your gun barrels. Sorry.....one of my pet peves. ;)

I finally finished the Stompa.
Thanks everyone for the reactions. I also metalized some parts a little more, but not to much.
I've learned a lot from this project. Next time (when I want to build something rusty), I will make it less rusty and more original paint visible. Like I did with the blocked shoulder part and the white metalsheet around the head.

I had a lot of fun painting and building the kit and I think, that's the most important thing. Now, up to a new project. It will be the Forge World War mammoth. Again a big project, but a beautifull model.
When I start this, I will make a new topic.

Anyone knows if it's possible to change the tittle???????

For now, some photo's of the finished Stompa:
