Orc Skin - What Colours To Use?

I\'ve never painted Orcs before but I\'m currently painting up a Blood Bowl Orc team. I was wondering what colour people use for Orc skin?

I use Games Workshop paints so if you use any other brand of paint a close GW paint colour comparison would be useful.

At the moment I am thinking of using the following:

Shade: Orkhide Shade
Base: Goblin Green
Highlight: Camo Green (possibly with some Sunburst Yellow added in for final highlights)

What does everyone else think? I\'m not entirely happy with the choice but I\'m not sure what other colours to use in the GW range.

I like to stick to the Foundation paints for ork skin. My favorite recipe is a black undercoat, Orkhide Shade, Knarloc Green, and Gretchin Green.

I used it in my article here if you\'d like an example of what it looks like.

Hope this helps.

Well there are numerous ways of painting ork/goblin skin, here are some combos I´ve tried:
dark angel green/snot green/rotting flesh
orkhide shade/goblin green/rotting flesh
catachan green/rotting flesh/
orchide shade/scorpion green

all of them can be smoothed out by washes/glazes of the base color.

Olaf:
You could use the Orkhide Shade as your base and highlight by adding Kommando Khaki to it.
It gives a more \"Organic\" look to the colour.

for quick, rank and file orc, i use a base coat of knarlock, a wash of brown ink (any dark brown wash will do), camo green and a subtle highlight of bleached bone (only on the highest sharpest parts, like in the face and on the fingers)

for prestige models, i use catachan green, catach-Knarlock, Knarlock, Knarlock-Camo, Camo green, Camo-bleached, Bleached bone . and a lot of patience. This gives a somewhat brownish, more natural colour.

i also painted a weirdboy, with realy bright skin, starting with dark angels green, dark angels-snot, snot green, snot-scorpion, scorpion green, scorpion-white, with a final highlight of almost pure skull white

for rank and file orcs, the second skin-tone would probably be: snot green, brown wash, snot green, goblin green or scorpion green.

hope this helps...

Heres my Ork skin I use the same recipe every time which is a bit boring I know but it works for me. Takes a bit of patience as the colours are not the best in the GW range but if you stick with it you get a nice bright result,

Catachan Green base
Catachan Green with a smidgin of Black for the shade
Catachan Green reset the areas to be highlighted,
then in very gradual amounts start mixing in Camo Green and keep increasing the mix ration until you are using pure Camo Green.
I then add a little Bleached bone to the camo Green for a final stage.
I then use the old citadel green ink and thin that down heavily and apply as a galze coat two or three times, unfortunately that is no longer available but I think that thinning down Thrakka Green wash may work just as well ( I haven\'t tried it out yet though).
The end result is something like this,

Like I say it is a little bright but I like it.
