Ive decided to start a new thread here for some of my projects. Any comments and critiques are welcome. First on my bench is the new warhammer tower. This is a lovely kit although assembly is not easy and it needed a fair bit of sanding. First off are some photos of it just in primer to show people what its like:

And some now ive got some paint on it. First of all the entire outside was airbrushed with a Xtracrylic paint 'extra dark sea grey' and then the bricks where individualy painted with the darkest of GW's foundation grey before being painted with the mid tone grey. I appologise for forgetting the names. I then washed between eachbrick with a waterd down black ink. The window areas have been painted Fortress grey and i will finish them next. As for the wood it was painted vermin brown before being dry brushed with scorched brown and i still need to do a bit of work on the wood.

Nice one Ollie, I'm just putting together the ruined version of the tower & a Fortified Manor-House. The tower is okay but I'm unhappy with the fit & chunkiness of the detailing. The insanity of the decor I find is best ignored too :D (it's a window on the outside but inside it's a bricked in doorway, wtf). I don't feel ripped off though, just I'm going to spray & dip rather than bother with proper painting. Having to focus on the non-sensical detail would do my head in! Anyone else planning on picking up the tower kits, please note, the stonework on it is massive in comparison to other Warhammer buildings. It's even chunkier than the LotR Ruins of osgilliath. I don't feel that the Tower on the table looks as though it belongs in the same world as the Fortified House (Chapel & Guardtower in one). A shame. Also, all of the skulls & Empire insignia are moulded on, not optional extras to glue on as you see fit. Deskulling it will take some serious patience!

Ollie. A fine drybrush over the blue stone with something like Space Wolf Grey will help to bring them out a bit more. Slather on the Badab Black but then go back around it & slap on traces of brown/green/orange washes as well, for shading/waterstains/etc. It'll help to bring more life to it :) I had considered painting the mortar a different colour on mine between each stone but have decided that would be time-consuming silliness! Really work the black/brown into the gaps between floorboards as well, you want them darker than the shading in the grain of the wood. Drybrush up with a tiny amount of Codex Grey in your yellow/brown to highlight without getting any yellower. Don't be afraid to use some thinned green wash over them for extra colour interest too.

Cheers, B.

Thanks for the suggestions. I was definatly planning on another highlight or two to the bicks and im definatly going to weather it. The woods definatly a WIP, im planning some more drybrushes, some ink washes to further darken some planks and i will be painting the joists. Keep an eye out for some photos.

Since these photos where taken ive highlighted the light grey with the light foundation grey and im going to work on them more. Ive just been sidetracked by non Wargaming projects.
