I heard this announced on the radio this morning and didn\'t believe it. But apparently it is happening...

The Smurf Movie

The Smurf movie is a brand new Smurf film that will be released in movie theaters worldwide. The movie will be produced by Kerner Entertainment and distributed under Columbia Pictures and Sony Pictures Animation. The Smurfs will be a 3-D CGI movie, completely rendered in three dimensions using computers - unlike the original Smurfs cartoon show, which is 2D. Columbia Pictures Chairman Amy Pascal has stated that, \"there was potentially a series of films in the making\" - the movie is planned to be released in three parts, as a trilogy.

Movie stars attached to the Smurf movie include: Ben Affleck, Sally Field, John Lithgow, Lucy Liu, Ben Stiller, Julia Sweeney, and Marisa Tomei.

What the hell do they need so many female voice actors for? There\'s only two female Smurfs...

And one of them was one of the Smurflings... which I think were a really really bad idea. I even thought they were a bad idea when I was watching them as a kid.

But, I suppose it isn\'t for us, is it? It\'s for kids. The poor children.

Err, Liz, the smurfs are older than you. :D

Not that I can recall. Remember, I\'m from the Howdy Doody, original Mouskateer, Lone Ranger era. If Smurfs are older than me it had to be somewhere in Europe because I was in my 20\'s when they showed up in the US

Having never liked the smurfs in the first place I am fairly ambivalent about this film.

I\'m sure it will suck though :p

Geek check! lol

I really couldn\'t care less about someone \"ruining\" Smurfs (although it is fun to implant that horrible theme song in people\'s heads.) My only concern as a parent is how I keep my kids away from it. I have experienced many things as a parent that I would otherwise have never experienced... Strawberry Shortcake, My Little Pony, the ultimate honor of being crowned the \"Pretty, Pretty Princess\".... but I draw the line at Smurfs.
