NMM - help requested - color selection

I\'ve been tinkering around with NMM for a while and I still can\'t seem to get it to look right.
I\'m not looking to get glorified Sky-Earth or reflective NMM, just something that looks good on the table top without using metallics.
Maybe it will help if I get more specific. I\'m working on a Salamander\'s Space Marine Chapter (GW) who\'s primary colors are green and Gold.
I can\'t seem to find the right colors to get an effective \"gold\" color. Mine either looks too \"boney\" or too yellow. So, what colors, step by step would you use to get a really good gold color on say... an Imperial eagle?

To follow that up, how do you create a really good silver, for the boltguns and smaller details? I\'ve seen greys mixed with blues etc, in different layers, but I can\'t figure out which layers and when to add blues to the greys and such.

Any tips would be helpful. I\'ll also be checking out the articles, so please, feel free to point out a specific article you think might help that maybe I missed.

Thanks.

I use bubonic brown with a bit of Valejo Charred Brown mixed in as the base. Then I higihlght that with just bubonic brown, I then mix in white or bone and highlight on edges and raised areas. Then I outline with brown ink mixed with some chared brown or chesnut ink and charred bone. A good silver cis be a mix of codex gey or V Cold Grey mixed with some Iperial Blue and black as a base, then add white or bone to that for highlights. You can take out the blue it you want a greyer look.

I use Vomit brown, Bestial Brown and white for my NMM golds, normally. Sometimes I throw in a bit of Vallejo yellow ochre on the higher end and Camo Black Brown to the shadows.

If your NMM is coming out too yellow, wash it with an golden orange/brown. If it\'s too far the other way, wash it with a yellow.

For simple tabletop silver, I use Vallejo Nuetral Gray , Black, and White.

First I paint it a medium tone, then put in the white line, then make the dark line and then shade from there to the edges. Practice helps.

If you do a quick research on the forum you\'ll find a couple of threads about NMM colors. I had the same problem not so long ago and I found a really helpfull thread about gold NMM.
