Newbie lack of inspiration

Hello everyone,

I am almost new in the hobby. I had a quite long dark age but two years ago I started to paint more seriously with games workshop’s stuff and I recently discovered bust painting. I like a lot painting bust and large scale minis… in my opinion the exercice is very different.

anyway, I need help on this White Werewolf Tavern bust. It’s work in progress.

I don’t know what to do for the shoulders and arms.
I thought it could be a kind of black deamonic leaver with an infernal blood red specular reflection on arms. For the shoulder I thought to a kind of black / red scales like for dark black scolopendra.

But I’m not convinced at all… the color doesn’t seems to match with the purple skin which I think is good.
the thing is I don’t know how to fill these areas…
So I would be very please to have your advices.

thanks a lot

This is looking very nice in my eyes. Its an attractive color scheme which is pairing well together. Beautiful purple skin color. It looks natural, as odd as that is a thing to say about purple skin.

I have one idea to suggest.

This sort of purple looks great alongside emerald, turquoise, teal, or other bright blue-green variants. Perhaps you could do some freehand tattoo runic markings, or something along those lines, in one or two blue-green colors? The shapes don't have to be particularly fancy or complex. Its more an excuse to get some well paired color contrast onto the large purple areas for some variation.

Regardless, you have done well and I expect you will finish strong whatever you decide.

Edit: I missed that it's been almost a month. Did you finish this project? What did you go with?

Hi
Thanks a lot for your advices and kind words. I really appreciate :bashful:
I had to stop 3 weeks ago but I had the opportunity to continue this week so I progress quite slowly. I struggle to put contrast on the wings…

I like a lot the idea of a tattoo or something like that creating on OSL on the arm and with a bright blue. I will try :)
Here a small update:

Looks good.

For the wings (and to some extent even the skin): you could add some reddish middletones. So the Transition goes from dark purple to the reddish tone to the light purple grey.
I'm not convinced, that you need to add anything to the shoulders it would clutter the bust too much imho.

One thing I think needs fixing are the eyes. Somehow they are unnaturally white (too white), with very small tooking irises and little definition on the outside. Step by step:
- white could be toned down with an offwhite/sand/light flesh color
- outside definition: outline with a dark purple/black on the inside of the eye on the upper part and with a red on the lower part of the eyeball
- Iris could be made larger with the darkest color (if you look at human eyes they are not a perfect circle, almost half of them hidden behind the eyelid. As for highlight I'd paint it like a gem with yellow-gold/yellow (the metallics in gold give an extra shine, yellow makes a great focal point for purple) and maybe a vertical catlike pupil (unsure of this).
