New sculpts, new style.

Ok, for those who thought I sucked here is my go at normal heroic standard minis. My Old school stuff was inspired by Gary Chalk, I love his art. The weird things I did, anyway giving this a go for a while until I get 7 new minis done. Then I might do a few old school again, and back and forth. Anyway, a lot of detail stuff yet to add, short swords attached to belt, furs, etc.

I did not get many shots of these primarily due to the fact there is so much more yet to do.

Who said you sucked??!!

They look pretty good to me. The bare one looks particularly nifty. Chainmail looks a bit chunky (although there\'s no scale reference...), otherwise very nice.

Wish I could suck like that!

Thank you. Yes the chain mail looks chunky as H#$@ here but it\'s due to th blown up scale. at 28mm it looks very fine. I could not get it any finer with ought it running into one another or using straight dots which I hate. I prefer to press the dots or indentions in at a slight angle from one direction, then the other. It looks much more connected this way, here is a shot at a little more than half the size and it looks way better:

As for sucking not anyone here has said so I think, over at the forum of doom a friend of mine posted some stuff and he was a little upset about it. I could care lass but hey nice to know how much he cares. The Troll should look fantastic when the chains and body piercings are done.

Chainmail does indeed look better at proper scale. Shooting the pics with a ruler would help give people a better idea of the scale (and your abilities!).

Great advice. I also was wondering by chunky do you mean the links or the suit itself? I just want to improve for the next one.

I\'d say these are a cracking and interesting start...
The Armour itself could do with some sharpening up just cleaner edges that kind of thing...

Do you mean like adding edging type stuff? Little ribbons around the bottom and such? I was thinking about that with little rivits on it. Not sure if it would be ok though, might be to artistic for an orc perhaps? What about broken links, making the edges more ragged? Which would you prefer to see?

I think what he means is the edges on the armor should be \"crisper\", meaning have a well defined edge rather than a rounded edge. I agree with demonherald.

Sculpts look great, by the way :)

Ok, I\'ll see what I can do. I was using some pictures for the edges as I was not sure how to end the mail and copied the old orc warlord on wyvern from gw. His seems to end in a similar sorta regular but not quite regular edge. I had it real straight but it looked artificial to me. I can try and add a little strip and blend it in, then sculpt some more mail on the new edges. Can someone please show me an example of the edging from another mini that they are talking about?

Talking about his belt, not the mail.

Take a look at a GW space marine. Edges are very \"sharp\" so to speak. Crisp, smooth, clean.

Imagine the edges of the belt from a side view. Yours looks like:

Make it look more like:

Understand what I mean? (and I think the same thing Demonherald means). :)

Cheers

Yeah that\'s right chief...
The middle gut plate/belt.. It needs a little more adding to it to rounden it out or add some detail and then the edges need sharper cleaner cut edges. just a very sharp knife to trim a thin bit off. At the moment it all kind of blends into one thing a bit...Hope that makes sense .. Oh and cheers Matt....

Cool thanks guy\'s, now I see what you mean. I guess that is my fault. I wanted the belt too look like leather, sorta like a saddle but it\'s looking more like armor. I have to put buckles over it in several places yet so that may help make it more clear soon. I plan to make these straps that hold his smaller weapons wove into the belt with a series of these buckles. I hope I can clear that up when it\'s finished. If you look at his feet where the metal is you can see the sharp edges I can get, just a bad design move on my part. You help has been fantastic, thank you.

Need some feedback from you on this wolf head. I don\'t have the ears or teeth on him yet but something looks slightly odd about it, can you figure it out? As for that you can see the new armor additions and such. Troll simple forearm update and the bone skin piercings.

This pic shows how cool the chain mail is. The others seem to distort it?

Thanks! Did you ever get the invitation to my forum? I tried to send you one but have no idea if it even went through. I value your opinion quite a bit.

Anyway, first time using brown stuff and must say it\'s not bad. A little less sticky and seems to set slightly harder than GS. I can get the same results with GS but BS allows me a little faster time in doing so.

Updates, camera seems to make things look so thick, but still not bad at 3-5times the size. I\'m getting better for sure and feeling like I may have a chance at this after all. Thanks to all of you who have given me the support to keep going even when I was feeling down.
Pictures of orc, then troll. Orc will have two heads thisfirst one I am trying to decide if I should helmet or not. Troll will have a rhino head on the shoulder with the point. Friend of mine wormwood gave me the idea.

Thank you, may I ask all of you to be kind enough to tell me what type of heads you might like to see? The orc is going to have the current head, helmet screaming head, and a third would not hurt at all. Troll will have this head and a LotR type of head with stitched up face.
