New Army

Hey all, A very long time lurker here.
I reciently broke my personal embargo on all things GW as I really wanted to paint some sort of chaos force. After looking through the relevant books and stuf I decided on a Alpha Legion army due to the fact that I can use cultists (seems a really loose list for conversions) but after doing some research the colour scheme seems a bit vague (blue or blue and green)

I have attached pictures of a finished cultist and a wip of my first marine, Wondered if anyone could give me some feedback before I go too far with the force.
So fa I really like the marine head and am going to try to get this look across the body, I didnt want it to be too green as I didnt want any confusion that these were nurgle marines.

:: note to self, the digi-dam really show\'s up flaws in painting when taking pics this close ::

Also could you let me know what you think of the bases, this is the first time I\'ve used cork and I love the way it looks.

Thanks in advance

The bases look great, nice job. I like the mottled effect on the SM shoulder armour, good metal shading/wash on both.

As to colour, hopefully a more trained SM chap can help, look good to me though
:D

Thanks Krom,

Heres a picture of the back, hopefully it show\'s the weathering Ive done to the metal (want it to look nasty) Also this show\'s the metal on the base aswell (the rust looks more red in this pic though)

Pic 3 : Back of marine (legs not done)

So far so very very good!!!

I like the cultists and they look very original as there are no beastmen equivelant in 40k.

The colour scheme is also very well done and very alpha legioney.

The chapter have a lot of reptile scales on their armour and stuff too. For sergeants and characters lizardskin cloaks/ loincloths could be made from dark eldar corsair parts and malleus darkblades cloak, just a thought?

Looking good so far keep at it, and the bases rock too!

Cheers OrkyDave,

Ive read bits about the use of scales and stuff (due to the hydra linkage methinks) Ill have to try em out! Any more comments would be appreciated im gonna raid my bits box for some dark eldar stuff now.

Re: the cultist, Im gonna use beast heads for all of em to give them a doom\'esq kinda look.

Not sure how im gonna pull off any kind of chapter badge, I hate waterslides and I\'m not sure if my freehand is up-to anything good.

Looking good, cultist is great, cork bases look good, colour on the marine looks ok, but I\'d start with a darker base coat and finish with a lighter turquoise. Only thing I\'m not at all into is the pink chain saw, but that\'s just personal pereference speaking.

Yeah, Im not sure about the entire chainsaw arm :( (even though its not pink in real life just gore red and blood red no white at all)

I decided to get that base colour right (the blue to greeny colour) then use mostly messed up metal for the trims and bits but I think I need another colour for things like the chainsword and the bolt-pistol casing, Just not sure what would go with the base colour, Worried bout the green on the sword aswell due to the afore mentioned worry about getting my marines confused with nurgles little babies.

Didnt want anything too green (nurglish) or too blue (Night-thingies?)

Do people think the bases are too \'Normal\', I was going to do warped bases for my deamons (like they corrupt the ground they walk on) should I make em more chaos-like?

For Slaanesh the clashing colors work but I think a more cohesive color for these guys (Lose the pink chain saw) The minis are looking good tho a whole army of these will look awesome.

New Wip

I thought i\'d keep all my wip\'s in one place.

Stopped the alpha legion entirely .. twas a nice bit of painting but in all the call of Nurgle was far too strong (wips of my first nurgle troops comin soon - very different from the norm !)

in the meantime though here is a wip of a little display necron I am working on (never painted necrons before so it was a treat)

He will be trudging through a snow base with the little scarabs \'floating\' on the barbed wire.

Really chuffed with his eye glow and playing a little more with osl from the gun thingy (mainly from the energy chamber near the gun handle) need to smooth out his left arm though as the light glow is a little harsh.

Please let me know what you think and any ideas, this is just a little fun thing to do between other stuff.

Ahh screw it , I cant wait to get some feedback on my \'fatty\' terminators. This is the first one as a trial and is still very much a wip (just skin tones and bronze metal done)
Wanted a messed up organic/machine look for my Nurgles and this is my vision.

I\'m learning that metalics are difficult to photograph so im going to play with more diffused light and see what I come up with.

Please let me know what you guys think of this ?? I think a squad would look ace!

The fatty looks good. I would offset the metal with another color tho to break up the monotomy Just my opinion tho. Also maybe the metal should have more damage on it. Great stuff so far.

wow the necrons looking kool, and the \'fatty\' terminator....omg fricking awsome, love the idea truley captures how nurgle works, have you decided on weapons for him yet???

@ Ogrebane - Yeah the copper will be broken up with some silver work and various details will be picked out in relevent colours. What kind of damage do you mean on the armour ? chips and stuff? ive not painted chipwork before.

@Taikisama - Cheers for the comments, with regards to weapons i\'m thinking a stormbolter thingy and a close combat weapon made from syringes (like he\'s gonna inject the enemy with his own foulness so they catch nurgles rot)

In my army all special and heavy weapon choices will be flamer type weapons but they will be modeled and painted to be spitting out some sort of vile green balefire.

Hopefully Ill get some better photo\'s up soon, the colours get really intensified at the moment and it looks quite wierd.

I love that fat terminator - that\'s a truely original conversion! And its pulled of seamlessly!

I also agree with Ogrebane - add another colour to the armour. Also I think a glaze of green ink would make the flesh look unwell and nurglish - at the moment it looks freakishly pink!

The rusted copper effect you have done very nicely. Also, I only now just realised that you\'ve used fantasy orc shoulder pads - they fit in so well!

Looking forward to seeing a whole squad of these dudes, just don\'t rush them - it would be a shame to see an excellent concept badly done!

Cheers,
Tom

Yep I think chips and scratches would look good and another thing for you to learn. I like the idea of your fat boy gives me some ideas for other stuff.

Cheers orkboy and ogrebane.. Flesh will be washed with some green (has several washes of purple at the moment cus I was trying to keep it from getting to green)

Im gonna try my first painted chips on the armour (looking forward to trying a \'first\')
Gotta get the weapons built aswell .. ..

A friend is giving me several other chaos termy bodies so that will be my squad (the only original chaos bit is the body)
And I just got some of the GW barbed wire to play with .. .:D The next ones gonne get all messed up!!!

. . .

It\'s like christmas has just come early, Ive just been given some early tyranid models (I lurve the old lictor) and 3 old imperial guard sentinals (all metal .. never even seen them before!)
2 box\'s of catachan guard, a Chimera with limited edition tank crew blister and various other bits \'n bobs.
They are all gonna get my best attention and end up on here, its about time I actually got something decent against my name.
